Board and train, Magnolia

Board and train in Magnolia: acreage, horses and working breeds

Magnolia is horse country, and the dog that comes to us from there has appointed itself to a job nobody gave it: patrolling the fence, moving the horses, chasing the deer. The stay gives it a real job with rules, and the handover happens at the barn where the old job lived.

The stay, from Magnolia

A short drive down 249, or the transport with the handover at the barn.

Magnolia is close enough to Cypress that drop-off is easy, and far enough into acreage that the $250 transport earns its price: the go-home session for a transport or VIP family happens on the property, at the fence line, the barn and the gate, with the horses in the paddock, because that is where the dog's real exam is. Drop-off families do the handover in Cypress. The dog lives in our house for the stay, crated at night, and is trained every day at home, in open fields and at the feed stores; photos and a note arrive Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

A working breed's stay is built around drive: engagement, a structured heel, place with real duration, an outlet with rules and a recall on a long line in open fields before anything is trusted loose.

What a Magnolia dog learns

Boundaries, calm around the horses, a recall past the deer and a greeting at the gate.

The Magnolia shepherd patrols five acres and barks at the tree line all night. The cattle dog moves the horses whenever it is bored. The Malinois has decided the delivery truck is a threat. The Pyrenees is doing its job at three in the morning and the neighbors have complained. Platinum builds a boundary at the property line on a long line, neutrality to horses, cattle and the barn cats, a recall that beats a deer at the tree line and a calm greeting at the gate, with unlimited lessons afterwards on the property. VIP finishes it off leash with the Mini-Educator, walked across your own land at the handover. Our founder grew up training horses, and the barn is on the curriculum because of it. Gold covers the 1488 subdivision dog that pulls, jumps and barks at the window.

Magnolia specifics

Open land in summer, coyotes at dusk, snakes in the tall grass and the horses.

Summer on open acreage is dangerous for a working breed that will run itself into heat stroke, so the field work runs at dawn and dusk from May to September with water every fifteen minutes and a hard stop. Coyotes are everywhere north of 1488 and will lead a chasing dog off and turn on it; the recall is built for that before any freedom. Copperheads live in the tall grass and the woodpiles from spring, and leave-it is worked hard in every Magnolia stay. Horses are the reason a Magnolia dog needs neutrality to livestock built at a distance and closed over days, never by throwing the dog in the paddock.

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this.

Do you pick up on acreage in Magnolia?

Yes. The transportation service collects your dog from any Magnolia address, acreage included, returns it at the end of the stay and includes the first lesson on your property, at the barn and the fence line. VIP includes it.

How far is Magnolia from the training home?

About 30 to 40 minutes to Cypress via 1488 and 249 outside rush hour. Drop-off is easy; the transport is worth it when the handover belongs at the barn.

Can you stop our dog moving the horses?

Yes. Calm around livestock is built like any neutrality: structure first, then the horses at a distance the dog can manage, closing over days. Horses were our founder's first training work, which is why the barn is on the Magnolia curriculum.

Which program keeps a dog on our land without a fence?

VIP. Boundaries are taught with a long line and a clear edge in Platinum, and proofed with the Mini-Educator in VIP for reliability when the deer moves. It holds only with the follow-up lessons, which VIP includes.
