Puppy bundle · River Oaks
Puppy training in River Oaks: the puppy bundle at your home, guests and staff included
A River Oaks puppy meets more people in its first month than most dogs meet in a year: guests, deliveries, a housekeeper, a landscaper, a valet on West Gray. If every one of them greets the puppy differently, it learns to jump on all of them. The in-home bundle exists so the whole house teaches the same puppy the same thing.

One set of rules
Guests, staff and family learn the same three rules in the first session.
The reason the bundle happens at your River Oaks home rather than ours is the people. In session one our trainer teaches everyone who will handle the puppy, family, housekeeper, nanny, the neighbor who drops in, the same three rules: a sit before any greeting, no hands on a puppy with its paws off the ground, and the place bed at the front door when the bell rings. A card on the refrigerator says the same thing for anyone who was not there.
The trainer also sets the practical pieces: the crate in the room the family actually uses, the potty spot on the lot away from the beds and the pool, the marker word, and the food rule so that treats come from training and not from the kitchen island. A puppy that gets one set of answers from eight people learns in weeks; a puppy that gets eight sets learns to ignore them all.
- A sit before every greeting, from every person who comes through the door
- No hands on a puppy with its paws off the ground
- The place bed at the front door when the bell rings; deliveries handled from the bed
- One card of rules on the refrigerator for staff and guests
The four sessions
Four sessions at your home, with the front door as the final exam.
Session one is in the puppy's first week and covers the rules, the crate, the potty spot and the marker word. Sessions two through four follow about a week apart: sit, the place bed and recall between rooms; then a stay with duration, the recall on a long line on the lawn and the first leash walk on your street once the vet has cleared the ground; then the front door itself, with the bell rung, a guest coming in and the puppy on its bed, and the plan for the adolescent months.
Each visit is 45 to 60 minutes with rest breaks, and our trainer works the puppy first and then hands it to whoever will be handling it most, which in a River Oaks house is often not the person who booked the call. That handover is deliberate. The puppy learns from the hands it lives with.
Session one: the household rules, crate placement, the potty spot, the marker word and the food rule.
Session two: sit, the place bed, recall between rooms, and greetings with staff and guests practiced.
Session three: a short stay, recall on a long line on the lawn, and the first street walk after clearance.
Session four: the front door with the bell and a guest, the patio from a mat, and the plan for months four to twelve.

Raising a River Oaks puppy
The bayou from a bench, West Gray from a mat, and a summer that starts in May.
Paws stay off ground that unknown dogs use until the vaccine series is complete and your veterinarian says so, usually around sixteen weeks. River Oaks is generous from a lap: Buffalo Bayou Park from a bench near the Rosemont bridge, watching runners, cyclists and dogs pass below; the patios on West Gray and in Highland Village from a mat under the table; the pet stores along Shepherd and Kirby from a cart. River Oaks Park and the bayou trails come after clearance, on a long line, at a quiet hour.
From May through September the outings move to before nine and after seven, and the sidewalk and the pool deck are tested with the back of your hand before the puppy walks on them. Potty trips go to shaded grass on your own lot, fire ants are checked in the beds after rain, and heartworm prevention starts at the first vet visit, because inner-loop mosquitoes are as bad as anywhere.
The housing is a large lot behind a gate or a townhome near Kirby, a pool on many of the lots, a landscaper every week and a front door that opens forty times a week. The pool needs a gate before the puppy arrives, the gate to the street needs to close on its own, and the puppy needs a place bed at the door, because in River Oaks the doorbell is the main event.
- Buffalo Bayou Park from a bench near the Rosemont bridge, in your arms, until clearance
- The West Gray and Highland Village patios from a mat; the Shepherd and Kirby stores from a cart
- River Oaks Park and the bayou trails on a long line after the vet clears the ground
- Before nine and after seven from May through September; the pool gate and the street gate checked
Prices
River Oaks bundle prices, at your home or in Cypress.
The bundle is $750 at your River Oaks home, and for a house with staff and frequent guests that is the version to book, because the point is teaching the people. The $550 version at our Cypress training home, about 30 to 45 minutes away via 610 and 290 outside rush hour, suits a townhome family whose questions are about the puppy rather than the household.
After four months, private lessons continue at $220 in your home or $160 in Cypress. A later stay is reserved with a $250 deposit, and the $250 door-to-door transport includes the first lesson at your house, which is how most River Oaks families take a stay.

Bundle or a stay
The bundle now; a stay with transport at four to five months if the doorbell has already won.
Board and train starts at about four to five months, when a puppy can hold structure for a whole day; before that it is the bundle. Gold at $2,500 for two weeks covers the manners set, and Platinum at $3,750 for three weeks is the program for the adolescent doodle that already launches itself at every guest, because it adds behavior modification, field trips and unlimited private lessons afterward.
River Oaks families usually take the $250 transport, so the go-home session happens in your house with the people who will be handling the dog. A puppy that did the bundle first arrives at a stay already knowing its bed, its name and the front-door rule.

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Can you teach our housekeeper and nanny too?
Yes, and it is the reason to choose the in-home version. Whoever spends the day with the puppy is in the sessions, learns the marker word, the sit before greetings and the place bed at the door, and gets the same written plan. A puppy handled the same way by everyone in the house learns in weeks.
Is Buffalo Bayou Park safe for a puppy before its vaccines are done?
From a bench and your arms, yes; on the ground, not until your veterinarian confirms the series is complete, usually around sixteen weeks. The trails are shared by hundreds of dogs a day, which is the point of the rule. After clearance, start on a long line at a quiet hour and keep the puppy well back from the water.
Our doodle puppy jumps on every guest. Is it already a habit?
At ten or twelve weeks it is a beginning, not a habit. Jumping is stopped by a sit before every greeting, guests asked to wait for four paws on the ground, and a place bed at the front door for the bell. Started in the bundle it fades in weeks; left until the puppy is sixty pounds it takes a stay.
Would we ever drive to Cypress for the $550 price?
Some River Oaks townhome families do, and it works well: the drive is 30 to 45 minutes outside rush hour, the puppy learns in a new house each visit, and the questions are about the puppy rather than the household. If your house has staff, a pool and a front door that never stops, the $750 in-home version is the one.
