Puppy training in The Heights: bungalow puppies and the Heights Boulevard esplanade
A Heights puppy lives on a small lot with a porch on the street, a patio three blocks away and a sidewalk that never empties. It will spend its life walking, sitting under tables and being greeted by strangers, and the first four months decide whether it does those things calmly or at the end of a tight leash.

The four sessions
Four sessions in a Heights bungalow, with the porch as the first classroom.
The first session is in the puppy's first week and it starts with the small yard: one potty spot, a fence walked for the gaps an old picket fence always has, and a check of the beds for anything a puppy should not eat. The crate goes in the living room, the marker word is taught, and the porch gets its first use: the puppy in your lap while the street goes by, learning that people, dogs and bikes passing are ordinary.
Sessions two through four run about a week apart: sit, the place bed and recall down the hallway; then a stay with duration, recall on a long line in the yard and the first leash walk on your block once the vet has cleared the ground; then a review at a patio on 19th Street or White Oak, a mat under the table with food and feet passing, and the plan for the adolescent months.
Session one: the yard and the fence checked, crate placement, the marker word, and the porch as the first lookout.
Session two: sit, the place bed, recall down the hallway, and greetings without jumping.
Session three: a short stay, recall on a long line in the yard, and the first walk on your block after clearance.
Session four: a patio on 19th or White Oak from a mat under the table, and the plan for months four to twelve.

Raising a Heights puppy
The esplanade from your arms, the patios from a mat, and a summer on hot sidewalks.
Until your veterinarian confirms the vaccine series is complete, usually around sixteen weeks, the puppy's paws stay off ground that unknown dogs use, and in The Heights that is every sidewalk and the whole hike-and-bike trail. The Heights Boulevard esplanade is the answer: a bench under the oaks, the puppy in your lap, and walkers, runners, dogs and strollers passing at a distance it can handle. The patios on 19th and White Oak from a mat, and the stores along Shepherd and Yale from a cart, complete the list.
After clearance, Donovan Park and Milroy Park are the first places the puppy walks on its own feet, on a long line at a quiet hour, and the hike-and-bike trail comes once the check-in is reliable, because a trail full of cyclists is no place to learn it. Dog parks wait for a recall and adult confidence.
From May through September the outings move to before nine and after seven, and the sidewalk is tested with the back of your hand every time; a Heights sidewalk in July burns pads in seconds. Potty trips go to the one shaded spot in the small yard, fire ants are checked in the beds after rain, and heartworm prevention starts at the first vet visit. The housing is close: a bungalow or a townhome, a neighbor's porch a few feet away, and a puppy that learns quiet at the front window early.

Bundle or a stay
The bundle for the bungalow; a stay at four to five months if the trail has already taught it to pull.
Puppies under four months stay home with the bundle. Once a puppy is about four to five months old and can hold structure for a full day, Gold at $2,500 for two weeks builds the manners set, and Platinum at $3,750 for three weeks is the choice for the adolescent that has already learned to pull on the trail and lunge at patio dogs, because it adds the structured heel, behavior work and field trips.
The Heights is 30 to 40 minutes up 290, so families both drop off and take the $250 transport, which brings the go-home session to your street. A lot of Heights puppies are rescues of uncertain age; if the puppy is past the bundle window, private lessons at $220 in your home cover the same skills at its own pace.
- Under four months: the bundle, at your bungalow for $750 or in Cypress for $550
- About four to five months and up: Gold for two weeks at $2,500, or Platinum for three at $3,750
- A rescue past the window: in-home private lessons at $220 for the same skills
Prices
Heights bundle prices, straight up 290 or at your door.
The bundle is $750 at your Heights home and $550 at our Cypress training home, about 30 to 40 minutes up 290 outside rush hour. Heights families split between the two. The in-home version earns its price when the small yard, the porch and the front window are the plan; the Cypress version suits a family with a car, a crate and questions about the puppy itself.
After four months the same skills continue as private lessons at $160 in Cypress or $220 at your home, and a later stay is reserved with a $250 deposit.

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Can we take the puppy to a patio on 19th Street before its shots are done?
Yes, on a mat under the table with its paws on the mat, not the ground, for a short visit at a quiet hour. A patio is one of the best socialization spots in The Heights: food, chairs, feet and other dogs at a distance. Keep it to twenty minutes, pay the puppy for settling, and leave before it gets tired and loud.
Our yard is tiny. Is potty training harder?
Smaller, not harder. One potty spot, used every time, is easier to establish in a small yard than a big one, and a Heights puppy learns it fast. The catch is summer: the spot needs shade, and the puppy needs to be carried across a hot walkway to reach it. The bundle sets the spot and the schedule in session one.
When can the puppy walk the hike-and-bike trail?
After your veterinarian confirms the vaccine series is complete, usually around sixteen weeks, and after the check-in is reliable on quieter ground, which is what Donovan Park and Milroy Park are for. The trail is cyclists, runners and dogs at speed, and a puppy that learns it too early learns to pull. Session four's plan sets the date.
We adopted a puppy of unknown age. Does the bundle still fit?
If your veterinarian puts it under four months, yes, and the sessions run closer together if the window is short. If the puppy is older, the honest option is private lessons at $220 in your home, which cover the same skills at the pace an older puppy can take. Tell our team what the vet said on the call.
