The Heights, Houston
Dog training in The Heights: bungalows, trails and dog-friendly patios
The Heights is the most patio-friendly neighborhood in Houston and one of the most walked. A dog that pulls on the trail, barks from the porch or cannot settle under a table on 19th Street makes that life harder than it should be. All three are training problems with short solutions.

How it works from the Heights
Straight up 290 to Cypress, or a trainer at your bungalow.
The Heights is one of the easiest inner-loop neighborhoods to reach the training home from: 290 from the Loop to Fry Road, about half an hour outside rush hour. Plenty of Heights families drop off and come back for the go-home session in Cypress. Others take the $250 transport so we collect and return the dog and run the handover on their own street and trail. In-home lessons at $220 a session cover the specific problems and the follow-up.
During a stay the dog lives in the house with our trainers, not a kennel, and you get photo and video updates every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
- About 30 minutes up 290 for drop-off
- $250 transport with the in-home handover
- In-home lessons, $220 per session
- Updates three times a week
Heights dogs
The trail, the porch and the patio.
Heights dogs are walked more than most and rescued more than most. The rescue that lunges at bikes on the hike-and-bike trail, the pit bull that barks at every passer-by from the porch, the Frenchie that will not settle under the table on White Oak, the new-build townhome dog that cannot handle the stairwell and the neighbors' dog through the fence. Each is a different problem with the same root: a dog that has never been taught to be calm around the things the neighborhood throws at it.
Gold covers the manners set for the excitable dog. Platinum handles the reactive rescue with daily structure, controlled exposure at distance and unlimited lessons afterwards on the trail itself. Both build the patio settle on real patios during field trips.
- A loose leash on the trail past bikes and dogs
- Quiet on the porch as the street goes by
- A settle under a patio table for the length of dinner
- Calm in a townhome stairwell and hallway
Where we train near you
The hike-and-bike trail, Donovan Park and the 19th Street patios.
Lessons and go-home sessions in the Heights use your own block first, then the hike-and-bike trail for loose-leash work past bikes and runners, Donovan Park and Milroy Park for recall on a long line, the patios on 19th Street and White Oak for the settle, and the stores along Shepherd and Yale for neutrality. During a stay, the same skills are built around Cypress and finished on field trips as the dog earns them.
Trail hours in summer are early and late; from May to September the pavement test decides when the dog walks.

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
How far is the Heights from the training home?
About 30 to 40 minutes straight up 290 to Cypress outside rush hour, which makes drop-off easy. The $250 transport is available if you want the go-home session on your own street and trail.
Can you help a rescue that lunges at bikes on the trail?
Yes. That is reactivity, and it needs structure first and then exposure at a distance the dog can hold, closer over days. Platinum does that daily for three weeks and includes unlimited lessons afterwards, on the trail, with you holding the leash.
Do you do lessons in Heights homes and townhomes?
Yes, $220 per session across the Heights, Garden Oaks, Oak Forest and Timbergrove. Townhome problems like the stairwell and the shared fence are worked where they happen.
Will my dog be able to sit on a patio with us?
Place with duration under distraction is built in every stay and proofed on real patios during field trips. With lessons, we practice it at the patio you actually go to, and it usually takes a few sessions once the foundation is there.
