In-home dog training in River Oaks: private lessons at your house, $220
River Oaks is gates, valets, patios on West Gray and a front door that opens for a delivery every hour. A lesson at your house is the one format that trains at that exact gate and that exact door, and it suits a family that would rather learn the handling than send the dog away.

At your house
A lesson at your house starts with watching, then the leash changes hands.
The first fifteen minutes happen in your living room with the dog loose. We want to see the greeting, the pacing, the bark at the window when a car pulls into the drive, and how each person in the household responds to it. You tell us what needs fixing and what you have already tried. By the end of that quarter hour our trainer knows which two or three things to work first.
Then the mechanics. Our trainer takes the leash first so you can see what a loose leash and a real place command look like on your own floor, and then it goes to you with coaching from a step behind. Repetitions happen at the true trigger: the gate when the mail arrives, the front walk when a neighbor's doodle passes, the patio table if that is where it falls apart. Every rep pairs a reward for the right choice with a fair, consistent consequence for the wrong one.
Homework is written down before we leave: three short sessions a day, which door to practice, which walk to take and which to skip for now. If something does not hold between visits, you tell our team and the next lesson opens with it.
Minutes one to fifteen: the dog loose, the household running as it normally does, your list of what has to change.
Equipment check: the collar, the leash, the crate and the bed that will be used for place, swapped if they work against you.
Our trainer on the leash first, at your gate and on your street, so you see the finished picture before you try it.
You on the leash with coaching, repeating each piece until it holds without a prompt.
The plan for the week: which drills, how often, and what to manage until the next visit.
What we see
River Oaks homes produce the same three problems, and none of them is aggression.
The first is the door. A River Oaks house takes deliveries, dog walkers, housekeepers and dinner guests through the same entry, and a dog that gets petted for barking at each one learns to bark louder. The second is the patio. The doodle that cannot lie still under a table on West Gray or in Highland Village has never been asked to hold a position with food and strange dogs a few feet away. The third is the sidewalk, where a friendly Lab drags its owner past valets and strollers on Kirby because pulling has always worked.
Each of these is a manners problem with a mechanical fix, and lessons are the right tool because the problem lives at your address. We can rehearse a stay on a bed in Cypress all week, but the guest coming through your door at seven on Saturday is the exam, and it makes sense to practice it there.
- Barking at the gate and the front door through a day of deliveries
- No settle under the table on a West Gray or Highland Village patio
- Pulling toward dogs, valets and strollers along Kirby and Shepherd
- A townhome dog near Kirby that cannot pass the neighbor on the stairs
Lessons or a stay
Lessons fit a dog with some structure; a stay in Cypress fits one that needs the whole foundation.
Four to six lessons at $220 each solve most River Oaks manners problems when the dog already knows a few things and the family practices daily. A dog that lunges at other dogs, panics when left alone or has bitten needs daily structure and controlled exposure, and that takes two or three weeks of living with our trainers in the Cypress home, about 30 to 45 minutes away via 610 and 290 outside rush hour. Gold is two weeks for $2,500 and Platinum is three weeks for $3,750 with unlimited private lessons afterwards, so the in-home work still happens, at the end.
The honest recommendation comes out on the free phone consultation. Our team asks what the dog does, how old it is and how much time the household has, and they point to the cheaper option whenever the cheaper option will work.
| In-home lessons | Board and train | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $220 per lesson, four to six typical | $2,500 for Gold, $3,750 for Platinum |
| Where | Your gate, your street, your patio | Our trainer's home in Cypress, then yours |
| Who does the reps | You, coached | Our trainers every day, then you at the handover |
| Best for | Door, patio and walk manners in a dog with a foundation | Reactivity, anxiety, a dog starting from zero |
| Your time | Three short sessions a day between visits | The go-home session, then follow-up lessons |
Around River Oaks
Buffalo Bayou, West Gray and Highland Village are the classrooms once the house holds.
A lesson does not stay indoors for long. Once the dog can hold a place with the front door open, we walk. The first walks circle your block, then follow Buffalo Bayou Park past runners and bikes, and when the dog is ready, end at a table on West Gray or in Highland Village for the settle that lets a dog come to lunch. River Oaks Park is where the long line comes out for recall.
From May to September the bayou paths are hot by mid-morning, and a lesson booked after nine moves indoors or under shade until the evening. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and crate calm can be folded into a lesson if you want the dog ready for a storm night.
- Buffalo Bayou Park for a loose leash past runners and bikes
- West Gray and Highland Village patios for the settle
- River Oaks Park for recall on a long line
- The pet stores on Shepherd and Kirby for calm around carts and people
The programs
Lessons first, a stay when the dog needs more.
In-home lessons are $220 in River Oaks. A puppy under four months takes the four-session bundle, and a dog that needs a reset takes Gold or Platinum in Cypress with lessons afterwards.
Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
How much is an in-home lesson in River Oaks?
$220 per session at your house in River Oaks, Upper Kirby, Montrose or the Museum District. The same lesson at our training home in Cypress is $160 if you would rather drive. Most families book four to six, and a puppy under four months takes the Puppy Development Bundle, four in-home sessions for $750.
How many lessons will my dog need?
For a dog that already sits, knows its name and has some leash experience, four to six lessons usually cover the door, the patio and the walk, with daily practice between them. If the first lesson shows the dog needs the whole foundation, our trainer will say so and suggest a stay in Cypress instead.
Can you stop the barking at our gate?
Yes, and it is one of the quickest fixes because the trigger is predictable. The dog learns a place or a sit before the gate or the door opens, with real arrivals as the practice. Everyone who answers the gate learns the same rule, because it only holds if they all use it.
Will lessons work for a dog that lunges at other dogs on the sidewalk?
Sometimes, if the lunging is excitement and the dog has a foundation. If it is real reactivity, it needs daily structure and controlled exposure at distances the dog can manage, which is three weeks of Platinum in our Cypress home. Platinum includes unlimited lessons afterwards, so the sidewalk work still happens on your block, with you holding the leash.
