Towne Lake, Cypress

Dog training in Towne Lake: the boardwalk, the lake and a lot of retrievers

Towne Lake is built around the biggest private lake in Houston, with boats, docks, the boardwalk and a retriever in most backyards. Its dogs need to be calm around water and calm on a busy boardwalk, and both are things our trainers build here regularly, because the boardwalk is one of our favorite field trips.

How it works from Towne Lake

A short drive, and the boardwalk is already on our route.

Towne Lake families have the easiest logistics we offer: drop off in ten minutes, come back for the go-home session in ten minutes, and book in-home lessons without our trainers spending an hour on the Beltway. That makes the follow-up after a stay more frequent, which is the thing that makes training hold.

The boardwalk is a regular Platinum and VIP field trip. Patios, strollers, other dogs, boats coming in: it is one of the best real-world exposure environments in northwest Houston, and a Towne Lake dog is proofed on it before it goes home.

  • Ten minutes to drop off and to pick up
  • In-home lessons and the bundle without travel time
  • Field trips on the boardwalk you walk every weekend
  • Updates every Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Towne Lake dogs

The lake, the dock, the boat and the boardwalk.

The Towne Lake dog we see most is a Lab or golden that owns the lake: in the water at every opportunity, off the dock without permission, onto the boat and off it, and deaf to its name once it is wet. The second is the doodle that cannot settle on the boardwalk patio and spends dinner lunging at every dog that walks by. The third is the Bernese or shepherd that guards the dock and the yard from the boats going past.

Water manners are a wait at the edge and a recall out of the water, built at the lake near the training home on a long line and transferred to your own dock in the go-home session. The patio settle is place under distraction, proofed on the boardwalk itself. The guarding is structure and neutrality, and it is Platinum work.

  • A wait at the dock and a recall out of the water
  • A settle on the boardwalk patios for the length of dinner
  • Neutrality to boats, bikes and dogs from the yard
  • A loose leash on the lakeside paths

Where we train near you

The boardwalk, the docks and Barker Cypress.

The boardwalk carries the loose-leash work and the patio settle. The lakeside parks and docks carry the water work, first on a long line and then, for VIP dogs, off leash with the Mini-Educator. The stores on Barker Cypress and 290 carry the neutrality around carts and people, and the neighborhood trails carry the everyday heel.

Towne Lake's paths have long stretches with no shade, so from May to September the outdoor work runs at dawn and dusk and the lake itself becomes the afternoon session, because a wet dog is a cool dog.

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this.

Can you teach my dog to stay off the dock until released?

Yes. A wait at the water's edge and a recall out of the lake are built on a long line at the lake near the training home and transferred to your own dock in the go-home session. It is standard Platinum work for a Towne Lake dog.

How far is Towne Lake from the training home?

About ten minutes; Towne Lake is part of Cypress. Drop-off, the go-home session and in-home lessons are all short trips, and the boardwalk is already on our field-trip route.

Do you train on the Towne Lake boardwalk?

Regularly. It is one of the best exposure environments in northwest Houston: patios, strollers, boats and other dogs. Platinum and VIP dogs are proofed there before they go home.

Which program for a doodle that cannot settle at a patio?

Gold if the dog only lacks an off switch; Platinum if it lunges at other dogs while it is failing to settle. Both build place with duration and both proof it on real patios, and our team will tell you which on the free call.
