Puppy training in Spring: the first four months, the Puppy Development Bundle
Spring and Klein are two kinds of puppy home: a Gleannloch Farms or Champion Forest house with a pool, a sidewalk and an HOA, and an older Klein lot with a big yard, tall grass and a fence nobody has checked in years. The bundle fits both, and the short drive to Cypress makes the $550 option a real one.

Four sessions
Four sessions, at your house or ours, with the yard doing most of the teaching.
Spring families can split the bundle any way they like: all four sessions at the training home for $550, all four at the house for $750, and the choice is usually made on the size of the yard. A Klein acre with tall grass and an old fence is worth the in-home price because the potty routine, the recall and the fence check all happen on that ground. A Gleannloch house with a small yard and a pool does well with the drive.
Whichever you choose, the first session comes in the first week home and covers the crate, the potty spot, the marker word and handling. The next three are a week to ten days apart, each 45 to 60 minutes with breaks, our trainer first and then you, with a plan of two-minute drills to run between visits.
Session one, the first week home: crate placement, the potty spot, the marker word, handling and the food rule.
Session two: sit, place on a bed, name recognition, and the nipping and jumping plan for a puppy that has found the children's socks.
Session three: recall on a long line across the yard, stay with short duration, and a first leash walk on the sidewalk or the driveway.
Session four: the skills somewhere new, the socialization list checked, and the plan for adolescence.
Socialization
Spring socialization is Meyer Park from a bench, Old Town on a weekend and the stores on 2920 from a cart.
The rule until your veterinarian confirms the vaccine series is complete is feet off shared ground, which leaves a puppy plenty to see from your arms, a cart or a mat. Meyer Park on a Saturday morning is fields full of kids and sports, watched from a bench. Old Town Spring on a weekend afternoon is sidewalks, music and strollers, all from your arms. The pet and hardware stores along 2920 and Louetta give a cart ride past automatic doors and carts.
Once cleared for the ground, Pundt Park and the Spring Creek Greenway edges give the first long-line walks with bikes passing at a distance, and a Champion Forest sidewalk in the evening brings the neighborhood dogs at a width you choose. A supervised visit with a neighbor's calm, vaccinated adult dog is worth more than a dog park at this age. Keep the greenway visits short in summer, when the creek keeps the mosquitoes busy.

Before eight weeks
Before the puppy arrives, walk the whole fence, especially on an older Klein lot.
On a Klein lot the fence is the first job: an old chain-link or board fence usually has a gap or a low spot, the grass may hide a puppy, and fire ant mounds are likely. Walk it, fix it and mow it before the puppy comes home, and choose a potty spot close to the house rather than somewhere out by the back fence. In Gleannloch Farms and Champion Forest the pool is the first job instead, with a barrier between the door and the water before day one.
Inside, put the crate where the family sits in the evening, decide which door is the potty door, and agree the furniture rule. Book the first vet visit for the first week and ask about heartworm prevention, since Houston's mosquito season is most of the year. If the puppy arrives in summer, plan potty trips on shaded grass and keep outings to early morning and evening.
- The fence walked and fixed, the grass mown, on an older Klein lot
- A barrier between the house and the pool in a Gleannloch or Champion Forest home
- Fire ant mounds treated and the potty spot chosen near the house
- The crate in the living space, the potty door and the furniture rule decided
- The first vet visit and heartworm prevention booked
Bundle or a stay
The bundle is the first four months; a Gold stay is the reset if the teenage months need one.
A puppy under four months is not a board and train candidate, and the bundle is what it needs. At adolescence, when the Lab or the shepherd that came through the bundle nicely starts pulling and ignoring the recall it once had, a Gold stay in our Cypress home installs the walk, place, doors and impulse control in two weeks for $2,500. Platinum at $3,750 adds the behavior work if the pulling has become lunging.
The drive is about 20 to 30 minutes outside rush hour, so most families drop off and come back for the go-home session in Cypress; the $250 transport with the first lesson at home is there if you would rather not.
| Puppy Development Bundle | Gold stay, later | |
|---|---|---|
| Age | Under four months | Adolescence and up |
| Where | Our Cypress home ($550) or your Spring house ($750) | Our Cypress home, two weeks |
| Price | $550 or $750 | $2,500 |
| The drive | About 20 to 30 minutes each way, or none | Drop-off and the go-home session in Cypress, or $250 transport |
| Best for | A new puppy and a family learning the handling | A teenage dog that has outgrown its manners |

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Should we drive to Cypress for $550 or book the in-home bundle at $750?
Drive if your yard is small, the puppy travels well and your questions are about the basics; the 20 to 30 minute trip is easy. Book in-home if you have a big Klein yard, an old fence, a pool or a toddler, because those are the things our trainer needs to see in person to set up the routine properly.
Do you cover Klein, Champion Forest and the Tomball side of Spring?
Yes. The in-home bundle at $750 covers Spring, Klein, Gleannloch Farms, Champion Forest, Champions and the Tomball side of 2920. All of it is within about half an hour of the training home in Cypress, so the $550 option is open to every family in the area as well.
Our puppy nips the kids and chews everything. Which session covers that?
Session two, with the plan reviewed in every session after. Nipping and chewing are normal at this age; the fix is teaching the puppy what to put in its mouth instead, giving the kids a script for when it bites, and building an off switch on the place bed. Session one's crate setup also matters, because a tired puppy in a crate does not chew the sofa.
Will my puppy need a board and train later?
Many bundle puppies never do, because the family learned the handling early and kept it up. Some do, usually the big, energetic breeds at eight to twelve months when the pulling and the selective hearing arrive. A Gold stay in Cypress at that point is a polish rather than a rebuild, and from Spring it is a short drive.
