Puppy training in Richmond: Aliana, Harvest Green and the Brazos trails

Richmond's master-planned neighborhoods are young: young houses, young families, and a first puppy in a lot of them. The bundle for Richmond is written for that household, a strong doodle or Lab puppy, a pool, a toddler and a set of HOA rules, with the Brazos trails as the reward once the puppy is old enough to walk them.

The four sessions

Four sessions in your Richmond home, planned around a first puppy and a busy house.

Richmond is far enough from Cypress that the bundle nearly always happens at your house, and the first session is in the puppy's first week. Our trainer puts the crate in the family room, chooses the potty spot away from the pool, teaches the marker word and sets the two rules that matter most with children in the house: how the puppy is picked up and what happens when it nips. A first-time family leaves with three drills of two minutes each and a written plan.

Sessions two, three and four follow at roughly weekly intervals. Sit, the place bed and recall between rooms come first; then a stay with duration, recall on a long line with the pool gate shut, and the first leash walk on your street once the vet has cleared the ground; then a review at a park or a patio and the plan for months four to twelve, when the doodle is strong enough to pull.

1

Session one: crate placement, the potty spot away from the pool, the marker word, and the kids' handling and nipping rules.

2

Session two: sit, the place bed in the family room, recall between rooms, and greetings without jumping.

3

Session three: a short stay, recall on a long line with the pool gate shut, and the first street walk after clearance.

4

Session four: a review at a park or a patio, and the plan for months four to twelve.

Raising a Richmond puppy

Raising a puppy in Aliana or Harvest Green: the heat, the vaccine wait and the HOA.

From May through September a Richmond puppy's outings run before nine and after seven, with potty trips on shaded grass and the sidewalk tested with the back of your hand before any walk. New sod grows fire ants after every rain, so check the potty spot before the puppy uses it, and Fort Bend mosquitoes make heartworm prevention a conversation at the first vet visit.

The puppy's paws stay off ground that unknown dogs use until your veterinarian confirms the vaccine series is complete, usually around sixteen weeks. Richmond has plenty to see from your arms: the stores along the Grand Parkway and Highway 90 from a cart, the Aliana and Harvest Green trails from a bench in your lap while bikes and strollers pass, and George Park from a blanket on a bench at a busy hour. The Brazos River trails come after clearance, on a long line, at a quiet hour.

The housing is new master-planned: HOA rules about fences and barking, sidewalks to every pool, a community lake and a neighbor with a new puppy two doors down. The pool needs a gate before the puppy arrives, the fence needs walking for the gap under the gate, and the HOA's pet rules are worth reading before a neighbor quotes them.

  • Before nine and after seven from May through September; fire ants checked in the new sod
  • The Grand Parkway and Highway 90 stores from a cart; the neighborhood trails from a lap
  • George Park from a bench until clearance; the Brazos trails on a long line after
  • A pool gate before day one; the fence walked; the HOA pet rules read

Prices

Richmond bundle prices, and why the in-home version is the usual choice.

The bundle is $750 at your Richmond home. The $550 version at our Cypress training home is available, but Cypress is about 45 to 55 minutes up the Grand Parkway outside rush hour and closer to an hour at school-run times, and four round trips with a young puppy is a lot to ask. Most Aliana and Harvest Green families book the in-home version and let the trainer see the pool, the crate and the kids.

Past four months, the $220 in-home lesson picks up where the bundle stops. A later stay is reserved with a $250 deposit, and the $250 door-to-door transport includes the first lesson at your house.

  • $750 for four sessions at your Richmond home; $550 in Cypress if you would rather drive
  • $220 per in-home private lesson after four months
  • $250 to reserve a later stay; $250 transport with the first lesson at your house

Bundle or a stay

The bundle for the first four months; a Gold stay with transport if the doodle outgrows the kids.

A puppy under four months does not board; it learns in minutes and needs its family for the rest of the day. At about four to five months it can hold structure through a full day, and Gold opens up: two weeks in our Cypress home at $2,500 covering sit and stay, place and stay, the loose leash, doors and impulse control, plus the go-home session, another lesson and lifelong support.

From Richmond the stay almost always comes with the $250 transport, which brings the go-home session to your house. The families who book it are usually raising a strong adolescent, a doodle or a shepherd, that has outgrown a child's arm on the sidewalk, and Platinum at $3,750 is the choice when the dog has started lunging at bikes on the trail.

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this.

Do you come to Aliana, Harvest Green and Long Meadow Farms?

Yes, all three, and the rest of Richmond's master-planned neighborhoods, at $750 for the four in-home sessions. Our trainer schedules them about a week apart in the same time slot so the puppy's routine holds. The $550 version at our Cypress home is available if you would rather drive, about 45 to 55 minutes up 99.

When can the puppy walk the Brazos River trails?

Once your veterinarian confirms the vaccine series is complete, usually around sixteen weeks. Before that George Park is a bench and a lap. After clearance, start on a long line at a quiet hour, keep the walks short, and stay well back from the river bank; the puppy is paid for looking at you rather than at every bike that passes.

Our puppy nips the toddler. Is that fixable at ten weeks?

Yes, and ten weeks is the right time. Nipping is normal at this age and is fixed by teaching the puppy what to do with its mouth instead, giving the toddler's older siblings a script for when it happens, and building an off switch on the place bed. It is in session one and reviewed in every session after.

What happens if the puppy is already five months old when we call?

Then it is past the bundle window and the honest options are private lessons at $220 in your Richmond home, which cover the same skills at an older puppy's pace, or a Gold stay at $2,500 with transport if the manners have already slipped. Our team sorts that out on the free consultation call.

Tell our team the puppy's breed and arrival date.

The free phone consultation is a direct call with our team: the breed, the day the puppy arrives, the neighborhood, the pool and the children. A Richmond puppy under four months gets its first in-home session that week; an older puppy is pointed to lessons or a Gold stay with transport, reserved with a $250 deposit.
