Puppy training in Champions: golf-course greenbelts and cul-de-sac manners
Champions is the established side of northwest Houston: mature oaks, golf-course lots, deed restrictions and families on their third dog. A lot of the puppies we see here are replacing a dog that lived fifteen years, and the owners want this one trained better from the start. That is what four sessions in the first four months are for.

Raising a Champions puppy
Old trees, a hot sidewalk and a golf cart path: the Champions puppy's first four months.
The oaks in Champions throw real shade, which buys a puppy an extra half hour on a summer morning, but from May through September the rule is still before nine and after seven, with the sidewalk tested against the back of your hand first. Potty trips go to a shaded patch of grass, and the middle of the day is for sleeping in the crate. Fire ants come up along the greenbelt edges and in the beds after rain, and a puppy stung once at its potty spot will refuse the spot.
Until your veterinarian confirms the vaccine series is complete, around sixteen weeks for most puppies, the puppy sees Champions from your arms. The patios along Cypresswood and 1960 work from a mat under the table, the stores around Willowbrook Mall work from a cart, and Meyer Park works from a bench in your lap while joggers, bikes and other dogs pass at a distance. The greenbelts and the golf-course paths themselves come after clearance, on a long line, at a quiet hour.
The housing is older and quieter than the new master-planned communities: cul-de-sacs, deed restrictions instead of a builder HOA, a golf cart or two, and neighbors who have owned dogs for decades and have opinions. Cul-de-sac manners are the skill: a puppy that sits for a greeting, ignores the cart and walks past the neighbor's Lab without a scene. Those are taught in the first four months or fixed in a stay at twelve.
- Before nine and after seven from May through September, with the sidewalk tested first
- Cypresswood and 1960 patios from a mat, the Willowbrook stores from a cart, Meyer Park from a lap
- The greenbelts and golf-course paths on a long line once the vet clears the ground
- Fire ant mounds checked along the greenbelt edge and at the potty spot after rain
The four sessions
Four visits, fifteen to twenty-five minutes from our door to yours, with the cul-de-sac as the test.
Champions is close enough to Cypress that the bundle runs either way. Families who choose the $550 version bring the puppy to our training home about a week apart; families who choose the $750 version have our trainer in their kitchen. The first session is the same in both: the crate placed, the potty spot chosen, the marker word taught, and a plan for the nipping that a retriever puppy starts on day two.
Session two adds sit, the place bed and a recall between rooms. Session three is a stay with a few seconds of duration, the recall on a long line in the yard and, once the vet has cleared the ground, the first walk on the cul-de-sac with the neighbor's dog in view. Session four is a review at Meyer Park or a patio, plus the plan for the adolescent months when the puppy is strong enough to pull an adult.
Session one: crate placement, the potty spot, the marker word, handling, and the retriever nipping plan.
Session two: sit, the place bed, recall between rooms, and the rule for greetings at the front door.
Session three: a short stay, the long line in the yard, and the first cul-de-sac walk after clearance.
Session four: a review at Meyer Park or a patio, and the plan for months four to twelve.
Bundle or a stay
The bundle for the puppy you have; a Gold stay for the adolescent you might get.
We do not board puppies under four months; a puppy that age needs its family and lessons measured in minutes. At about four to five months it can hold structure for a full day, and a Gold stay at our Cypress home becomes an option: two weeks at $2,500 for sit and stay, place and stay, the loose leash, door boundaries, jumping and impulse control, with the go-home session, one more lesson and lifelong support included.
Champions families on their second or third dog often skip the stay entirely, because the bundle plus a few lessons gets them the dog they wanted. The ones who book it are raising a big adolescent retriever or shepherd that has outgrown the manners, and Gold in two weeks does what months of arguing would not. The drive is short, so drop-off and the go-home session in Cypress are the norm.

Prices
Champions bundle prices, fifteen minutes from the training home.
The bundle is $550 at our Cypress training home and $750 at your Champions home, and the drive between them is about 15 to 25 minutes outside rush hour via 1960 and 290 or Cutten and Grant. That makes the $550 version the common choice here. The in-home version earns its price when the plan depends on the house: a pool, a toddler, a second dog that needs to be introduced properly.
After four months the same skills continue as private lessons at $160 in Cypress or $220 at your home. A later stay is reserved with a $250 deposit, and the $250 transport with the first lesson at your house is available, though at this distance almost nobody in Champions uses it.
- $550 for four sessions in Cypress, about 15 to 25 minutes from Champions
- $750 for four sessions at your home, when the pool, the toddler or the second dog is the question
- $160 or $220 private lessons after four months; a stay reserved with $250
The programs
For a Champions puppy, and for the third dog done right.
The bundle at $550 in Cypress or $750 in your Champions home for the first four months; lessons afterward; a Gold stay only if the adolescent months call for it.
Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
We already have an older dog. Does the bundle cover the introduction?
Yes, and it is one of the best reasons to choose the in-home version. The trainer manages the first meetings on leash, sets up separate feeding and crate spaces, and shows you how to keep the older dog from teaching the puppy its bad habits or being flattened by it. A calm senior is an asset; the bundle makes sure the puppy treats it like one.
Can the puppy ride in the golf cart or walk the cart paths?
Riding in your lap in a cart, at walking speed, is fine exposure from the first weeks. Walking the golf-course paths waits for your veterinarian's clearance of the vaccine series, usually around sixteen weeks, and then happens on a long line at a quiet hour. Carts passing at speed are a distraction the puppy should meet on a leash, at a distance, and be paid for ignoring.
Where can a Champions puppy meet other dogs safely before sixteen weeks?
In a friend's or neighbor's yard, with a vaccinated adult dog you know is gentle, on leash and for a few minutes. Not at a dog park and not on the greenbelt, where the ground is shared with dogs you know nothing about. The bundle's socialization list is mostly people, sounds and surfaces; dog-to-dog play comes after clearance.
Is it too late for the bundle at fifteen weeks?
No. The window is under four months, and a fifteen-week-old still fits with the sessions a few days apart instead of a week. Past four months the same lessons run as private sessions at $160 in Cypress or $220 at your home. Tell our team the birth date on the call and they will schedule it to fit.

Book the free phone consultation and tell our team the breed, the arrival date, whether there is an older dog in the house and whether you would rather drive to Cypress or host the sessions. A Champions puppy under four months starts that week; an older one is pointed to lessons or a Gold stay, reserved with a $250 deposit.
