Dog training in Alvin: country lots and dogs with jobs
Alvin dogs have room: an acre or three, a barn, chickens, a long driveway and a road at the end of it. Nobody walks them on a leash, and by two years old the heeler or the shepherd has decided the property line is a suggestion. What those dogs need is a recall that beats a rabbit and a leash they can tolerate at the vet.

How it works from Alvin
Over an hour each way, so the pickup does the driving.
We are honest about the distance. Alvin to Cypress is about 60 to 70 minutes outside rush hour, up 288 and around the Beltway to 290, and it is far worse at five on a weekday. That is why nearly every Alvin family takes the $250 transportation service. Our team collects the dog at your gate, the ride north is its first exposure to a calm car, and at the end of the stay we bring it home and run the go-home session in your yard and on your driveway, where the recall actually has to work.
Drop-off is welcome if you would rather make the drive and meet the trainer in person. The training home is a house in Cypress off 290 near Fry Road, your dog lives inside it with a small number of other dogs, and the go-home session for drop-off families happens there. Either way, photo and video updates arrive on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
- $250 pickup and return, with the go-home session on your property
- Six-week VIP includes the transport
- A house in Cypress, not a kennel, and only a few dogs at a time
- Photo and video updates three times a week
Alvin dogs
Heelers, shepherds and the recall that has to beat a rabbit.
The Alvin call is usually a working breed doing its job without a supervisor. The heeler nips the kids' ankles because nobody gave it cattle. The shepherd runs the fence line at every truck. The Lab from the feed store has learned that the driveway leads to the road and the neighbor's chickens. The pattern is the same: a smart, driven dog with no boundaries and a recall that works only when nothing interesting is happening.
Platinum is built for this dog. Three weeks covers the structured heel, down and stay at a distance, impulse control around movement, and field trips where the recall is proofed against real distractions before it ever meets your goats. VIP, at six weeks, is the off-leash program: full reliability at range with the Mini-Educator e-collar included, which is what a dog on acreage without a fence eventually needs.
- A recall that works off the porch and past the chickens
- A down at a distance while the tractor runs
- Neutral around livestock, not herding it
- A leash the dog accepts for the vet and the feed store

Where we train near you
Briscoe Park, the feed stores on 35 and the bayou on a long line.
During the stay, field trips run near the training home in Cypress: store aisles, sidewalks, parks and the lake. When the dog comes home to Alvin, the in-home lesson and any follow-ups happen where the dog lives. Briscoe Park, run by the City of Alvin, is our spot for loose-leash work and a long-line recall past ballgames and other dogs; check the city's site for current rules. The feed stores along Highway 35 are a fine test of neutrality around forklifts, pallets and strangers who want to say hello.
Chocolate Bayou is beautiful and it is alligator country, so recall practice near the water is always on a long line and never at the bank's edge. Storm season, June through November, matters here: a dog that is calm in a crate handles a flood watch or an evacuation drive up 288, and crate calm is part of every stay.

Lessons and puppies in Alvin
In-home lessons come to your acreage at $220; the puppy bundle is $750 at your place.
Private lessons at your home in Alvin are $220 a session and are the right choice when the dog has structure already and one thing is broken: the recall, the chicken coop, the greeting at the gate. Our trainer works the actual driveway and the actual pasture edge, because a heel on a Cypress sidewalk means less to a farm dog than a down-stay while the horses are fed.
For a puppy under four months, the Puppy Development Bundle is four sessions of 45 to 60 minutes, $750 at your property or $550 at the training home in Cypress. It builds recall, place, crate and potty routines and the early socialization that keeps a working-breed puppy from growing into a fence-runner. Start it before the puppy discovers the road.

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Is Alvin too far for board and train in Cypress?
No. It is far enough that we recommend the transport rather than the drive, and the $250 covers both trips plus the lesson on your property when the dog comes home. Families who want to see the house first are welcome to drop off in Cypress and do the go-home session there.
Will my dog learn to stay off the road without a fence?
A recall and a boundary can be taught to a high standard, and the VIP program is designed for exactly that level of off-leash reliability. No training makes a dog immune to a deer at the wrong moment, so on acreage we pair the recall with supervision and a clear routine, and we say plainly on the call what your dog's temperament allows.
Can you train my dog around chickens and goats?
Yes. Neutrality around livestock is impulse control plus a down at a distance, and the Platinum program builds both before the field trips test them. The final proofing happens at your place during the go-home session, with your animals, because that is the only test that counts.
What happens if a hurricane is forecast while my dog is with you?
The training home has a storm plan. Dogs are crated and cared for through the weather, families get direct updates, and if a route home through Brazoria County were closed we would hold the dog safely and coordinate the return with you. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and crate calm is part of every stay for this reason.
Do you come to Alvin for a single lesson?
Yes, at $220 per session, anywhere in Alvin and the Highway 35 side of Brazoria County. One lesson can fix a specific issue in a dog that already has structure; a dog that needs a full reset gets more from a stay, and we will tell you which on the free call.
