How it works from Woodforest

Forty-five minutes down 249, so most families take the pickup.

From Woodforest the training home in Cypress is about 45 minutes outside rush hour, FM 1488 to 249 and south, and longer at school-run time. Many families make that drive to drop off and to attend the go-home session; more take the $250 transport, which collects the dog at your door, returns it at the end and includes the first lesson in your house, on your own trail, with your own deer.

The training home is a house off 290 near Fry Road, not a kennel, and only a limited number of dogs are there at once. Your dog trains every day and goes on field trips to stores, sidewalks, parks and the lake as it earns them. You watch it happen in photo and video updates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The go-home session closes every program, at your home or at ours.

Forest trails, the 1488 stores and Lake Conroe on a long line.

The go-home session and follow-up lessons in Woodforest use the community's forest trails and lake paths for the walk past runners, other dogs and, with luck, a deer at the right distance. The stores along FM 1488 supply aisles and carts for neutrality. Lake Conroe nearby is for the water recall on a long line and for calm on a dock. Montgomery County's site has the county's animal rules; read them rather than relying on hearsay.

The pines change the hazards. Deer and coyotes move through at dawn and dusk, so evening yard time is supervised and recall is proven on a long line before it is trusted. Snakes are in the leaf litter from spring to fall; a leave-it that works matters. From May to September outdoor work is early and late, and the shade on the trails helps.

  • Forest trails for the walk past runners and deer
  • Stores on 1488 for neutrality
  • Lake Conroe on a long line, dock manners included
  • Supervised evenings; recall proven before it is trusted

Woodforest dogs

Big dogs, big yards, and a deer that runs past the back fence.

The Woodforest dog is a shepherd or a Lab or a Pyrenees with a forest behind the house and a fence it can clear. It has chased a deer at least once and it remembers. On the trail it drags its owner, at the pool it launches in with the kids, and at the door it greets guests with all of its eighty pounds. Nothing here is aggression; all of it is a strong dog with no rules.

Platinum, three weeks, is the program for this dog: structured heel, down-stay, impulse control, behavior modification, field trips where the recall is tested against real distractions, and unlimited lessons afterwards. Gold, two weeks, handles a younger dog that only needs manners. VIP, six weeks, is off-leash reliability in the forest with the e-collar and transport included, and it is what some Woodforest families ultimately want.

  • A recall that beats a deer
  • A heel on a shaded trail past other dogs
  • Place by the pool until released
  • A calm eighty-pound greeting at the door

Lessons and puppies in Woodforest

In-home lessons at $220, and the puppy bundle for the big-breed puppy.

Private lessons at your Woodforest home are $220 a session and suit the dog with basics and one issue, or the follow-up after a stay; we work your trail, your fence and your pool. Big-breed puppies grow fast, and the Puppy Development Bundle, four sessions of 45 to 60 minutes for puppies under four months, is where a Bernese or a shepherd puppy learns recall, place, crate and potty routines, socialization and not to jump before it weighs seventy pounds. Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this.

Is Woodforest in Montgomery or Conroe?

Woodforest is a master-planned community off FM 1488 with a Montgomery address, west of I-45 and south of Lake Conroe. For us the relevant fact is the drive: about 45 minutes to the training home in Cypress via 1488 and 249 outside rush hour, which is why the $250 transport is the common choice.

Can you stop my dog chasing deer?

We can build a recall and a leave-it strong enough to beat a deer in most dogs, and we proof them on field trips before the go-home session tests them on your trail. A dog with very high prey drive still needs supervision at dusk, and we tell you honestly where your dog lands.

Do you pick up in Woodforest?

Yes. The $250 transportation service collects your dog at your door, returns it at the end of the program and includes the first lesson in your home. VIP includes the transport. Drop-off in Cypress is welcome, and drop-off families do the go-home session there.

Will my dog be safe around your other dogs?

Yes. A limited number of dogs are in training at once, introductions are managed, and the goal is calm coexistence rather than free play. Big Woodforest dogs benefit from that, because calm around other dogs is exactly what the trail asks of them.

Do you do private lessons in Woodforest?

Yes, $220 per session at your Woodforest home. They are the right tool for a specific problem, such as the pool or the back fence, and for coaching after a stay. A dog that needs the whole picture rebuilt is better served by a Platinum stay.
