Riverstone, Sugar Land
Dog training in Riverstone: lake trails, resort pools and dogs that greet a lot of neighbors
Riverstone is a master-planned community in Sugar Land, off University Boulevard, with lake trails, resort-style pools and more neighbors per mile of sidewalk than almost anywhere in Fort Bend. The dogs are friendly and the sidewalks are full, which is the problem: a doodle that greets everyone at full speed is a doodle nobody wants to meet.

Riverstone dogs
The greeter: a friendly dog that has never been told to wait.
The Riverstone dog is a doodle, a golden or a Cavalier that loves everyone, and on a Saturday morning on the lake trail everyone is there. It pulls toward every person, lunges at every dog, jumps on every child, and its owner apologizes fifty times a mile. At the pool it is worse. None of this is aggression; it is a social dog with no impulse control, and it is very fixable.
Gold, two weeks, installs the waiting: a loose leash past people and dogs, a sit for greetings, place, door manners, impulse control. Platinum, three weeks, is for the dog whose excitement has tipped into frustration and lunging, and adds behavior modification, field trips into busy places and unlimited lessons afterwards. Free-Style, two weeks, gives a social dog with manners something to do with all that engagement.
- A loose leash past neighbors on the lake trail
- A sit before any greeting
- Four paws down with the kids at the pool
- A settle on a patio for the length of lunch
How it works from Riverstone
Forty-five minutes up 99: drop off, or we collect the dog at your door.
The training home is a house in Cypress off 290 near Fry Road, about 45 minutes from Riverstone outside rush hour by University Boulevard or 59 to the Grand Parkway. Drop-off families make the trip twice and do the go-home session in Cypress. Transport families pay $250 for pickup and return and get the first lesson at home, on the sidewalk where the greeting problem lives.
During the stay your dog lives inside the house with a limited number of other dogs and learns to be calm around them, which is the skill Riverstone asks for daily. Field trips take the work into stores, sidewalks, parks and the lake. Photos and video arrive on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and the go-home session closes the program with you holding the leash.

Where we train near you
The lake trails, University Boulevard and Cullinan Park.
Follow-up lessons and the go-home session in Riverstone use the lake trails on a busy morning, because the greeting has to hold with real neighbors. The stores along University Boulevard give us aisles and doorways for neutrality. Cullinan Park, run by the City of Sugar Land, has a boardwalk and a lot of birds, which is a good recall test on a long line; the city's site has the current rules and the leash requirement.
Sugar Land summers push outdoor sessions to before nine and after seven from May to September, with the pavement checked by hand. Resort pools need a rule: no entry until released, and a calm settle on the deck. Retention lakes are alligator habitat anywhere in Fort Bend, so the leash stays on near the water.
- Lake trails on a busy morning for the greeting
- University Boulevard stores for neutrality
- Cullinan Park for recall on a long line
- Pool deck settle and a wait at the edge
Lessons and puppies in Riverstone
In-home lessons at $220, and the puppy bundle for the next social butterfly.
Private lessons in your Riverstone home are $220 a session and are the right fit for the greeting problem in a dog that is otherwise fine, for the follow-up after a stay, and for coaching a whole family. Lessons at the training home are $160. Platinum and VIP come with unlimited follow-up lessons.
A puppy under four months takes the Puppy Development Bundle: four sessions of 45 to 60 minutes, $750 at your home or $550 in Cypress, covering sit, place, stay, recall, crate and potty routines, socialization done calmly, and the prevention of jumping. Socialization done calmly is the point in Riverstone: a puppy that meets fifty neighbors sitting becomes a dog that greets politely.

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Is Riverstone in Sugar Land, and how far is the training home?
Riverstone is a master-planned community in Sugar Land off University Boulevard, and the training home in Cypress is about 45 minutes away outside rush hour via 99. Far enough that most families take the pickup, close enough that drop-off is common too.
My dog is friendly but jumps on everyone. Is that a training problem?
Yes, and a common one. A friendly dog with no impulse control learns, in a Gold stay, to sit for greetings, to walk on a loose leash past people and to keep four paws on the ground. The go-home session and the follow-up lessons put those rules on your own sidewalk.
Do you pick up in Riverstone?
Yes. The $250 transportation service collects your dog at your door in Riverstone, returns it at the end and includes the first lesson in your home. VIP includes the transport. Families who drop off in Cypress do the go-home session there.
Can you train around the pool?
Yes. Pool manners are a wait at the edge until released and a settle on the deck, both built during a stay and proofed at your house during the go-home session if you take the transport. The AVMA's heat guidance is worth reading before the first pool day of summer.
How many dogs are at your home at once?
A limited number, always. Your dog lives in the house with our trainers and a small group, learns to be calm around them, and gets daily individual work. That calm around other dogs is exactly what a Riverstone sidewalk asks of a dog every weekend.
