Dog training in Pasadena: the southeast side, from Fairmont to Deer Park

Pasadena runs on shift work. Somebody in the house leaves at five in the morning or gets home at midnight, the dog's day has no fixed shape, and the barking, the pulling and the door-charging fill the gaps. Our job is to give the dog rules that hold no matter who is on shift.

How it works from Pasadena

The Beltway is the reason we bring the dog to you.

From Pasadena the training home in Cypress is about 50 to 60 minutes outside rush hour, east side to northwest side around Beltway 8, and a shift worker cannot spend two hours of a day off on that loop twice. So we recommend the transport. For $250 our team picks the dog up at your door, brings it home when the program ends, and teaches the first lesson in your house right then, with whoever is home that day.

If you would rather drive, drop-off at the training home is welcome and the go-home session happens there. The home is a house off 290 near Fry Road, the dogs live in it with our trainers, and only a limited number are in training at once. Updates come by photo and video on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, which works for a night shift because you watch them whenever you wake up.

Pasadena dogs

Fence-line barkers, door-chargers and a shift-work schedule the dog cannot read.

The dogs we meet from Pasadena are pit mixes, shepherds, Rottweilers and heelers that run a chain-link fence all day at everything on the street, then explode at the door when a family member comes home at an odd hour. Some have a bite history with a mail carrier or a neighbor's dog through the fence. Most have never been walked on a loose leash because the walk was a fight.

A Gold stay handles the pure manners case: place, the walk, doors and impulse control in two weeks. The fence-line dog with a real reactivity problem is a Platinum dog: three weeks with behavior modification, field trips into stores and parks, and unlimited lessons afterwards so every adult in the house learns the same handling. That last part matters more in a shift-work home than anywhere else.

  • Quiet at the fence when the street moves
  • A calm door greeting at any hour
  • A loose leash past other dogs, without the fight
  • One set of rules every adult in the house uses

Where we train near you

Strawberry Park, Burke Crenshaw and the Fairmont Parkway stores.

During the stay the field trips are Cypress ones: the stores, sidewalks and parks near the training home. When your dog is back in Pasadena, follow-up lessons use Strawberry Park and Burke Crenshaw Park, both run by the City of Pasadena, for loose-leash work past joggers, ball fields and other dogs, and the pet and hardware stores along Fairmont Parkway for neutrality around carts and strangers. Rules and hours are on the city's site; check them before you go.

Southeast Houston is as hot and as wet as anywhere in the metro. From May to September the outdoor sessions run before nine in the morning or after seven at night, and we check the pavement with a hand before a walk. Hurricane season is June 1 to November 30, and the Pasadena side has a real evacuation history, so the crate calm we build is the same calm your dog will need in the car on a bad day.

Lessons and puppies in Pasadena

In-home lessons at $220 for the dog that is fine except for one thing.

Private lessons at your Pasadena home are $220 a session and are the fit when the dog already has some structure and one problem is left: the fence, the door, the leash. Lessons at the training home in Cypress are $160 if you are up that way. Four to six sessions, a week or two apart, is the usual course, and the homework in between is what makes it stick.

Puppies under four months take the Puppy Development Bundle: four sessions of 45 to 60 minutes for $750 at your home or $550 in Cypress. Crate and potty routines, recall, place, socialization, and the nipping and jumping that turn into the door-charging later. A puppy in a shift-work house needs a crate routine more than most, and that is where we start.

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this.

Do you pick up in Pasadena and Deer Park?

Yes. The $250 transportation service covers Pasadena, the Fairmont side and Deer Park, collects the dog at your door and returns it with the first lesson taught in your home. At this distance it is the option we recommend, and VIP families get it as part of the program.

Can you work around a refinery shift schedule?

Yes. The free consultation, the pickup window and the go-home session are all scheduled around whoever is home, and we take calls from 6am to 9pm daily. Updates arrive by photo and video, so a night-shift family watches them on its own clock.

My dog has bitten through the fence. Can you help?

Often, yes. Fence-line aggression is one of our specialties, and the Platinum program is built for it: three weeks of behavior modification, controlled exposure and a handover that teaches you the management. We are honest on the call about what training can and cannot change in a dog with a bite history.

Is it far to drive to Cypress from Pasadena?

About 50 to 60 minutes outside rush hour, around Beltway 8 to 290. Drop-off families make the trip twice, once to drop off and once for the go-home session, and they are welcome. Most Pasadena families take the pickup instead and do the go-home session at their own house.

What does the go-home session cover?

Everything you need to hold the training: the leash handling, the place command, the door routine and the corrections and rewards our trainers used, practiced with you until it looks the same in your hands. With transport it happens in your Pasadena home; for drop-off families it happens in Cypress.
