Meyerland, Houston
Dog training in Meyerland: big yards, Brays Bayou walks and storm-season calm
Meyerland is 1950s and 60s ranch houses on big lots, many of them rebuilt higher after the floods, with the Brays Bayou Greenway running through the middle and Godwin Park at the edge. The families here have lived through storm seasons, and so have their dogs. The training has to hold on a Tuesday walk and on the night the sirens go.

Meyerland dogs
Big yards, older owners and a dog that panics when the rain starts.
Meyerland gives a dog a big yard, which sounds like a gift and often is not. The dog patrols the fence, digs at the corners, barks at everything on the street and never learns to walk on a leash because nobody thinks it needs to. Then the owner, who may be seventy, tries to take it down the greenway and gets pulled off her feet. A big yard is space. It is not structure.
The second Meyerland problem is weather. A dog that has lived through a flood, or simply through a Houston thunderstorm season, can shake, pace and hide at the first rumble, and by hurricane season the household is managing the dog as much as the storm. A stay gives the dog a crate it treats as a safe place, a place command it can hold through noise, and enough structure that a storm becomes a thing that happens rather than a crisis.
- A loose leash on the greenway for an owner who cannot be pulled
- Quiet at the fence when the neighbor's dog passes
- A crate the dog goes to on its own when thunder starts
- Calm in the car for an evacuation drive

Where we train near you
The Brays Bayou Greenway, Godwin Park and the Meyerland Plaza stores.
The Brays Bayou Greenway is the Meyerland walk: a long paved trail beside the bayou, shared with cyclists and runners, managed by the Harris County Flood Control District and Houston Parks and Recreation; their sites carry the current rules and any closures after heavy rain. It is the right place for a structured walk with distance, and the bayou edge is a reason to keep the leash on, because bayous can hold alligators.
Godwin Park is the neighborhood park, quieter and good for a down with families at a distance. The Meyerland Plaza stores provide the indoor practice: carts, automatic doors and crowds on a weekend. During the stay, Platinum and VIP field trips use the equivalent places near the training home in Cypress; the in-home lesson and follow-ups use the greenway and your own street. Summer walks happen early and late, and the pavement gets a hand test first.
- A heel on the Brays Bayou Greenway past cyclists
- A down at Godwin Park with kids on the playground
- Sit and wait at the Meyerland Plaza automatic doors
- Leash on at the bayou edge
The storm plan
Lessons in your Meyerland home at $220, and the plan for the night the sirens go.
A private lesson at your Meyerland home is $220, or $160 at the training home in Cypress. Lessons suit a single problem, an owner who wants to learn the handling before a stay, or the follow-up after a program. In Meyerland the most requested lesson is the storm plan: what to do with the dog from the first forecast to the all-clear so that it is not the household's second emergency.
The Puppy Development Bundle is the puppy version: four private sessions of 45 to 60 minutes for a puppy under four months, $750 at your home or $550 in Cypress. A Meyerland puppy learns a crate it loves before its first thunderstorm, potty habits that survive a big yard, sit, place, stay and recall, and a leash walk before it is strong enough to pull anyone.
Weeks before: the crate is the dog's safe place, used daily, never as punishment
At the forecast: move the crate to an interior room, pack the dog's kit with food, meds and records
As the rain starts: place or crate, a chew, calm voices, no fussing over the shaking
If you leave: the dog rides in the crate, and the crate rides with you
After: a structured walk as soon as the streets are safe, then back to the routine
How it works from Meyerland
Forty minutes up 610 and 290, or pickup at your door.
Meyerland to the training home in Cypress is about 40 minutes outside rush hour, 610 north and west to 290, then out toward Fry Road. Drop-off families bring the dog on the first day and hold the go-home session at the training home on the last. Many Meyerland families, particularly older owners, take the $250 transportation service: we pick the dog up at your door, return it at the end and teach the first lesson in your home.
Your dog lives in our trainer's house with a small group of dogs, trains all day in the house, the yard and on field trips, and photos and video reach you on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, so you can see the work without driving to see it. VIP includes the transport and an in-home handover, and if a storm is forecast during a stay our team keeps you informed and coordinates the return with you directly.

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Do you pick up in Meyerland?
Yes. The $250 transportation service collects your dog at your Meyerland door, returns it at the end of the program and includes the first lesson in your home. It is included in VIP. Many older owners take it so that nobody has to make the 290 drive twice in a fortnight.
Can training help a dog that panics in thunderstorms?
It helps a great deal. A stay teaches the dog a crate it treats as safe, a place command it can hold through noise, and enough structure that the storm is not the only thing happening. Severe storm phobia may also need your veterinarian's input, and we will say so if we see it.
What happens if a hurricane threatens during the stay?
The training home has a storm plan, the dogs are crated and cared for through the weather, and every family gets updates. If an evacuation or flooding affected the route to Meyerland, our team would coordinate the return with you directly. Ready Harris and the National Weather Service are the sources to watch.
I am older and my dog pulls me. Which program?
Gold is often enough: two weeks installs a structured walk and impulse control, and the go-home session teaches you a handling style that does not rely on strength. If the dog also lunges at other dogs on the greenway, Platinum adds the behavior work and unlimited lessons so you can practice with our trainer.
How far is Meyerland from the training home?
About 40 minutes outside rush hour, 610 north to 290 and out to Fry Road in Cypress. A Saturday drop-off is realistic, and the $250 pickup with its in-home lesson is the choice for families who would rather not drive it twice.
