Board and train, Meyerland

Board and train in Meyerland: for the Braeswood and Meyerland households

Meyerland is 1950s and 60s ranch houses on big lots, many rebuilt after flooding, families and older owners, and dogs walked along Brays Bayou. Its dogs need a loose leash on the greenway, calm in a storm and a settle at home, and the stay is shaped around those three.

The stay, from Meyerland

Up 610 and out 290 for drop-off, or a pickup at the ranch house.

Meyerland to the training home is about 40 minutes by 610 and 290 outside rush hour, and drop-off with the food, medications and records is a straightforward morning for a family; older owners often prefer the $250 transport, which brings our trainer to the house for the first lesson and takes the dog to Cypress without anyone driving the loop. The first day there is a quiet settle into a house with a limited number of dogs and a routine.

From day two the work is daily in the training home and on the sidewalks, in the stores and at the lake near it, with photos and video on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The go-home session is at the training home for drop-off families, and at your house for transport families and VIP graduates, where our trainer walks the greenway with you and covers the storm plan for the summer at your own kitchen table.

What a Meyerland dog practices

A loose leash on the greenway, calm when the thunder starts and a settle on a big lot.

A Meyerland dog pulls on the Brays Bayou Greenway toward every cyclist and dog, treats the big backyard as a reason never to come in, and falls apart when a storm rolls over Braeswood. The stay builds the structured walk on the Cypress sidewalks and adds wheels and passing dogs in order, a recall from the far end of the yard on a long line, and a settle on place that is practiced with noise before it is asked for in a storm.

For the go-home session and the lessons afterwards, the Brays Bayou Greenway is the classroom, a trail managed by the Harris County Flood Control District with Houston Parks; Godwin Park gives a neighborhood walk with other dogs at a distance, and the Meyerland Plaza stores give aisles and carts. Check the Flood Control District and Houston Parks and Recreation sites for the greenway's current rules before you practice there on your own.

Which program Meyerland families choose

Platinum for the storm-anxious dog, Gold for the friendly puller.

Gold at $2,500 fits the friendly dog that pulls on the greenway and jumps on the grandchildren: two weeks of sit and stay, place, the loose leash, door boundaries, jumping and impulse control, with a go-home session, one added lesson and lifelong support. Platinum at $3,750 is the honest choice for the dog that panics in storms, guards the house from visitors or lunges on the trail; three weeks buys behavior modification, field trips and unlimited private lessons afterwards, and storm anxiety in particular needs that time.

VIP at $10,000 gives six weeks, off-leash reliability across a big lot, the Mini-Educator included, transport and the handover at your house with unlimited in-home lessons; it suits the family that wants the yard and the greenway finished. Silver at $1,500 is a one-week refresher for a graduate who has drifted since last summer.

Prices and the deposit

Published prices, a $250 deposit, and a transport that spares the loop.

Gold is $2,500, Platinum $3,750, and VIP $10,000, on this page and on the pricing page alike. The $250 reservation deposit holds the dates and is part of the price you already saw. Transport is $250 for pickup and return with the first lesson at your home, included in VIP; from Meyerland it spares two loops around 610 and puts the go-home session on the greenway and in the yard where the habits live. Drop-off at the training home works any day from 6am to 9pm.

Private lessons afterwards are $160 at the training home or $220 at your house; Platinum and VIP include them without limit, and older owners in Meyerland tend to book the at-home version. Boarding with training refreshers is available for graduates during a trip. Every price is on the pricing page, and the consultation call is free and brief.

Meyerland specifics

Storm season on the bayou, hot pavement and a dog that remembers the water.

Meyerland knows what a flood is, and its dogs carry that too: a dog that panicked during a storm once will brace at the first thunder. The settle on place with noise is built during the stay, and the go-home session covers a storm plan for the dog that matches the family's own, including where the crate goes and when to move. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30; Ready Harris and the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston office are the sources we point families to. From May to September the greenway fails the pavement test by mid-morning, so walks are early and late, and heartworm prevention runs all year on the bayou.

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this.

How far is Meyerland from the training home?

About 40 minutes outside rush hour, up 610 to 290 and out to Cypress near Fry Road. Drop-off is a reasonable drive, and the $250 transport is the easier option for anyone who would rather not drive the loop twice.

Can you help a dog that panics in thunderstorms?

Yes, and Platinum at $3,750 is the program for it. Storm anxiety needs three weeks of behavior modification, a crate and place that mean safety, and the unlimited lessons afterwards so the plan is rehearsed at home before the first storm. Gold does not include behavior modification.

Is the go-home session at my house?

It is if you add the $250 transport or book VIP: our trainer brings the dog home, walks the Brays Bayou Greenway with you and goes over the storm plan in your kitchen. Families who dropped off take the session at the training home in Cypress.

We are older and cannot manage a strong dog on the greenway. Does board and train help?

That is one of the best reasons to book it. The stay does the heavy lifting with our trainers, and the go-home session teaches you handling that does not depend on strength. The unlimited lessons after Platinum and VIP are in your home, so the walk gets practiced on your own street.

What happens to my dog if a storm comes during the stay?

We agree the plan at booking: who moves the dog, where and when, so it is not decided while a storm is in the Gulf. The training home is in Cypress, a long way from the bayou, and our team keeps you updated by phone if plans change.
