In-home lessons in Katy
In-home dog training in Katy: Cinco Ranch to Old Katy, in your living room
Katy is master-planned family life: sidewalks, community pools, lake trails, kids on bikes and a dog on every third porch. Old Katy has bigger trees and older fences. Either way the problem is in the house or on the street outside it, and that is where the lesson happens.

At your house
A Katy lesson starts wherever your dog loses it: the garage door, the pool gate or the trail.
Most Katy families come and go through the garage, so the garage-to-kitchen door is the real front door and the one we work first. Our trainer asks you to come in the way you normally do while the dog is loose, and watches the jump, the spin and the dash for the driveway. Then we set the rule: the dog sits or goes to a bed before the door opens, our trainer handling the first rounds so you can see the timing, then you.
From the door we go to the yard if you have a pool, because a gate the dog rushes is a gate a toddler follows it through. Then the street. On a Cinco Ranch or Seven Meadows sidewalk at five in the afternoon there are bikes, strollers and other dogs within a minute, the distraction a leash lesson needs, at a distance your dog can handle. You leave with a written plan.
Come in through the garage as you normally would while our trainer watches the dog.
Teach a sit or a place at that door, our trainer first, then you with coaching.
Work the pool gate or the back door the same way if you have one.
Walk your street with the bikes and strollers as live distractions.
Practice a settle on a bed while the household moves around.
Take the written plan and book the next lesson.
What we see
Kids on bikes, the pool gate and the garage door: where Katy dogs come apart.
The first Katy problem is motion. A Lab raised on a street full of kids on bikes and scooters has been chasing them from the front window for a year, and on leash that becomes a lunge that scares the neighbor's child. The second is the pool. A doodle that jumps the gate and swims during every party is fun in July and a hazard when a two-year-old is in the water.
The third is the door, and in Katy it is usually two doors: the garage entry where the family comes in and the front door where guests and deliveries do. The dog behaves at one and not the other because only one was ever practiced. Old Katy adds a fourth: a fence built before the current owners, with a gap by the alley the dog found first.
- Lunging at bikes and scooters from the sidewalk
- Rushing the pool gate and jumping in during parties
- Good at the garage door, wild at the front door
- An Old Katy fence with a gap the dog found first
Lessons or a stay
Pulling and jumping are lesson problems; lunging at bikes on the trail usually means Cypress first.
A dog that pulls, jumps and ignores the recall in the yard learns quickly in four to six lessons, because each problem is mechanical and practiced daily. A dog that lunges at bikes or other dogs with real intent needs controlled exposure every day at a distance it can manage, and a lesson a week cannot deliver that. That dog does better living with our trainers in Cypress for Gold, two weeks at $2,500, or Platinum, three weeks at $3,750 with behavior modification, field trips and unlimited lessons afterwards.
Katy is close enough that either path is easy. Drop-off is a straight run up the Grand Parkway, the go-home session happens at the training home, and the follow-up lessons come to your street. On the free consultation call our team tells you which one your dog needs.

Around Katy
Mary Jo Peckham Park, Cullen Park and the Katy Mills stores are the next classrooms.
When your street holds, the lesson moves out. Mary Jo Peckham Park, run by Harris County Precinct 3, is our first stop for a loose leash past strangers and a long-line recall on open grass; check the precinct's site for the current rules. Cullen Park has the miles for a dog that needs a real walk, the stores around Katy Mills teach neutrality to carts and sliding doors, and the LaCenterra patios test the settle with food on the table.
From May through September the pavement fails the hand test by nine in the morning, so summer lessons run early or after six and use the store aisles in the heat. Katy sits in hurricane country from June 1 to November 30, and crate calm can be part of any lesson if your dog struggles on storm nights.
- Mary Jo Peckham Park for recall and passing strangers
- Cullen Park for the long walk
- The Katy Mills stores for carts and doors
- LaCenterra patios for the settle with food nearby

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Do you come to Cinco Ranch, Elyson and Firethorne as well as Katy proper?
Yes. The $220 in-home price covers all of Katy, including Cinco Ranch, Firethorne, Seven Meadows, Elyson, Grand Lakes, Kelliwood and Old Katy. Cinco Ranch has its own page because the lake trails and LaCenterra shape the work there, but the trainer, the price and the lesson are the same.
Can a lesson stop our dog chasing kids on bikes?
If the chase is excitement, yes, over a few lessons: the dog learns to hold a sit while a bike passes at a distance, and the distance shrinks each week. If it is a hard lunge with a fixed stare, that is reactivity, and our trainer will suggest a Platinum stay so the exposure work can happen every day rather than once a week.
Should our kids be part of the lesson?
Yes, for the parts they can do. Kids old enough to hold a leash learn the same rule as the adults, because a dog with four handlers and one rule learns faster than one with four rules. Younger children mostly need to learn what not to do around the dog, and our trainer covers that too.
How do you handle the pool in a lesson?
We treat the pool gate like a door: the dog waits for permission before it goes through, and a place bed on the deck gives it somewhere to be while people swim. If the dog swims on its own, we do not stop that, but it learns to get out and come when called, which matters when a small child is in the water.

Tell our team what your dog does at the door or on the trail.
The free consultation is a phone call with our team, no obligation, about your dog and the two or three things you want changed. We schedule in-home lessons on that call. If our trainer thinks a Gold or Platinum stay is the honest answer, a $250 deposit reserves the dates in Cypress.
