Hempstead, TX
Dog training in Hempstead: Waller County acreage and working breeds
Hempstead is Waller County proper: the courthouse square, the feed stores, acreage with cattle on it and a dog that has never seen a leash it liked. The problems are country ones, a recall that fails at the fence line, a dog that chases the neighbor's calves, coyotes at dusk. The training home is 25 minutes away and built for that dog.

How it works from Hempstead
Twenty-five minutes down 290: drop off, or we come to the gate.
Hempstead is one of the closest towns we serve. The training home sits off 290 near Fry Road in Cypress, about 25 minutes east of the courthouse square outside rush hour, so most families drive in for drop-off, see the house, and make the same trip for the go-home session. If you would rather not, the $250 transport picks the dog up at your gate, returns it at the end, and includes the first lesson on your property.
Your dog lives in the house during the stay, with a limited number of other dogs and no kennel runs, and works every day: structure inside, the walk outside, and field trips to stores, sidewalks and the lake as the program goes on. You see the progress in photo and video updates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Every program ends with the go-home session where you learn the handling.
- About 25 minutes down 290, so drop-off is easy
- $250 pickup and return if you want it, first lesson at your place
- The six-week VIP program brings the dog home to you
- Updates three times a week

Where we train near you
Zube Park on the way in, the feed stores and the square.
Field trips from the training home reach Hempstead's side of 290 easily. Zube Park in Hockley, run by Harris County Precinct 3, sits between us and you and gives a country dog open fields for long-line recall and a busy weekend crowd to be neutral around; check the precinct's site for current rules. The feed stores in Hempstead are a real test: forklifts, chicks in a tub, strangers who reach for the dog. The courthouse square supplies sidewalks and traffic.
Waller County is coyote country and the dusk hour on acreage is when a dog goes missing. Recall work near home is on a long line until it is proven. Fire ants, mosquitoes and heartworm are year-round, and outdoor sessions from May to September move to early morning and evening.
Hempstead dogs
Heelers, catahoulas, Pyrenees and a recall that stops at the property line.
The Hempstead dog has a job, or thinks it does. The heeler herds the kids and the four-wheeler. The catahoula runs deer and comes back at midnight. The Pyrenees guards the goats and barks at the road all night. The Lab puppy from the sale barn has never worn a collar. What we build in these dogs is a recall that beats prey, a down at a distance, and neutrality to livestock they are not supposed to work.
Gold, two weeks, is right for the young dog that needs basic structure, a leash and door manners for the first time. Platinum, three weeks, adds the structured heel, down-stay, behavior modification and field trips, plus unlimited lessons after, and it is the program for the chaser and the fence-runner. VIP is six weeks and the choice for real off-leash reliability across acreage, e-collar included.
- Recall past deer, rabbits and the neighbor's cattle
- A down at a distance while you work
- Calm at the road, not barking at every truck
- A collar and leash the dog accepts at the vet
Lessons and puppies in Hempstead
Lessons on your land at $220, or in Cypress at $160.
For a dog with basics that has one country problem, private lessons on your property are $220 a session, and the trainer works the real driveway, the real gate and the real pasture edge. The same lesson at the training home is $160, and at 25 minutes many Hempstead families take that option. Follow-up lessons after Platinum and VIP are unlimited.
The Puppy Development Bundle is four sessions of 45 to 60 minutes for puppies under four months, $550 in Cypress or $750 at your place: recall, place, crate and potty routines, socialization, nipping and jumping. A farm puppy that learns a recall at ten weeks is a dog that comes off the cattle at two years.

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Can I drop my dog off from Hempstead instead of paying for transport?
Yes, and most Hempstead families do, because the training home is about 25 minutes down 290. You drop off at the start, come back for the go-home session at the end and skip the $250. Transport is there if the timing does not work, and it comes with a lesson at your place.
Will you train my dog to leave the livestock alone?
Yes. Livestock neutrality is impulse control and a reliable down, built in the Platinum program and proofed on field trips before the go-home session tests it with your own animals. A dog bred to herd will always notice cattle; the training decides whether noticing turns into chasing.
What about coyotes on my property?
Coyotes are a real risk to small dogs and a fight risk for big ones, especially at dusk and dawn. Training helps with a recall that overrides the chase and a routine of supervised evening trips outside. Texas Parks and Wildlife describes coyote behavior; supervision is the rule we give every acreage family.
Do you take dogs that have never been on a leash?
Often. Many Hempstead dogs arrive with no collar history at all. The first days are spent teaching the leash to mean something calm, and by the go-home session the dog walks on a loose leash in a store. It takes patience, not force, and it is part of every program.
Can you come to Hempstead for the go-home session?
Yes. Transport families get the go-home session on their property as part of the $250, and every VIP graduate is delivered home with an in-home handover. Drop-off families do the session at the training home in Cypress. Either way you leave knowing the handling.
