Cross Creek Ranch, Fulshear
Dog training in Cross Creek Ranch: Flewellen Creek trails and dogs that hike
Cross Creek Ranch is built along Flewellen Creek, with creek trails, lakes and a dog park of its own, and its families use all of it. The dogs here are expected to hike: a morning on the creek trail, an afternoon by a lake, an evening loop past other families. A dog that pulls, chases or ignores its name turns every one of those outings into work.

How it works from Cross Creek Ranch
Thirty-five minutes up the Grand Parkway: drive it, or we come to your door.
Our training home is a house in Cypress off 290 near Fry Road. From Cross Creek Ranch it is about 35 minutes outside rush hour, FM 1463 or FM 1093 to the Grand Parkway and north. That is close enough for many families to drop off, see where the dog will sleep, and return for the go-home session. The rest pay $250 for the transport: our team collects the dog at the door, returns it at the end, and runs the first lesson at the house on the day it comes home.
Your dog lives indoors with our trainer and a small number of other dogs, and the day has a rhythm: structure in the house, training on the walk, rest, then field trips into stores, sidewalks, parks and water as the program advances. Photo and video updates go out each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The go-home session is the handover, where a family that hikes learns to hold the heel our trainer built.
- Drop-off in Cypress, about 35 minutes away
- $250 pickup and return with a first lesson at home
- VIP brings the dog home with an in-home handover

Cross Creek Ranch dogs
Trail dogs that pull for three miles and forget their name at the creek.
The Cross Creek Ranch family owns a dog so it can come along: on the creek trail before school, around a lake at dusk, to the dog park on a Saturday. The dog we meet is a Lab, a vizsla, an Aussie or a doodle that pulls the whole way, dives for every squirrel along Flewellen Creek and comes back only when it feels like it. At the dog park it runs the fence with the pack and tunes out every call.
Platinum is the program for a dog that has to hike well: three weeks of structured heel, down-stay, recall, impulse control and field trips that test all of it in public, with unlimited private lessons afterwards. Gold, two weeks, handles a younger dog that needs the walk and the house manners. For the family that wants the dog off leash on open ground, VIP is six weeks of off-leash reliability with the Mini-Educator e-collar and transport included.
- A loose leash for the length of the creek trail
- A recall that beats a squirrel
- A calm exit from the dog park when called
- A down-stay at the trailhead while you tie a shoe

Where we train near you
Flewellen Creek, the community dog park and the FM 1463 stores.
Follow-up lessons in Cross Creek Ranch use the places your dog actually goes. The trails along Flewellen Creek are where the heel and the long-line recall get proofed against birds, bikes and other dogs. The community's dog park is a neutrality test: we work outside the fence first and teach a recall out of play before the dog goes in. The stores along FM 1463 give us doors, carts and strangers. The community sets its park rules and the City of Fulshear posts city rules; check both before you go.
Creeks and lakes in Fort Bend County are alligator habitat, so near the water the leash stays on and recall practice runs on a long line. Snakes use the creek banks from spring to fall, one more reason every trail dog needs a leave-it. From May to September a hike means early morning or evening with a hand test on the pavement first, and a dog working hard in August needs water and shade breaks more often than most owners expect.
Lessons and puppies in Cross Creek Ranch
$220 lessons on your own trail, and a puppy bundle for the future hiking partner.
Private lessons at your Cross Creek Ranch home are $220 a session, or $160 at the training home in Cypress. For a trail dog they work best as a short course: the first visit at the house and on your street, the next ones on the creek trail, the last at the dog park fence. After a Platinum or VIP stay the follow-up lessons are unlimited, and most families here spend them outdoors on the paths they walk every week.
A puppy under four months starts with the Puppy Development Bundle: four sessions of 45 to 60 minutes, $750 at home or $550 in Cypress. It covers sit, place, stay, recall, crate and potty routines, socialization and the prevention of nipping and jumping. For a puppy bought to hike, the recall and the first leash walks come first, and short outings come well before long ones.

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Is Cross Creek Ranch in Fulshear?
Yes. Cross Creek Ranch is a master-planned community in Fulshear, west of Katy, built along Flewellen Creek with lakes, trails and a community dog park. The training home in Cypress is about 35 minutes away outside rush hour via FM 1463 or FM 1093 and the Grand Parkway, so drop-off and the $250 pickup both work.
Can my dog use the community dog park after training?
That is often the goal. Before a dog goes in, it needs a recall out of play and calm at the gate, and we build both outside the fence first. Some dogs are happier on the trail than in a crowd of strangers, and we tell you honestly which kind yours is after watching it work.
Will my dog be able to hike off leash?
The VIP program is built for off-leash reliability, with six weeks of work and the Mini-Educator e-collar included. Platinum builds a strong recall and heel that many families use on a long line. Near creeks and lakes we still keep dogs leashed because of alligators and snakes, whatever the training level.
Do you pick up in Cross Creek Ranch?
Yes. The $250 transportation service collects your dog at your door in Cross Creek Ranch, returns it at the end of the program and includes the first lesson at your house. It is part of VIP. Many families drop off in Cypress instead, since the drive is about 35 minutes.
What about snakes and alligators on the creek trails?
Both live along Flewellen Creek and in Fort Bend County water. A reliable leave-it and a recall help, a leash near the bank matters more, and staying on the cleared path in warm months helps most. Texas Parks and Wildlife has species information worth reading before summer hiking season.
