Dog training in Brookshire: the west end of Katy, from Willow Creek Farms to Fulshear's edge

Brookshire is where Katy runs out and the farmland starts. Willow Creek Farms and the new I-10 subdivisions put family retrievers and doodles on small fenced lots; a mile south, acreage dogs work cattle and run the Brazos bottomland. We train both, and the difference is in what we proof.

Brookshire dogs

Two kinds of dog: the subdivision retriever and the acreage worker.

Willow Creek Farms sends us young Labs, goldens and doodles with a small yard, a family with kids and a walk that has turned into a tug of war. The acreage side of Brookshire sends heelers, shepherds and catahoulas that have never worn a leash, chase anything with hooves, and treat the property line as a rumor. The subdivision dog needs manners and an off switch. The acreage dog needs a recall and a down that hold at distance.

Gold, two weeks, covers the subdivision list: sit and place, loose leash, door boundaries, jumping and impulse control. Platinum, three weeks, adds the structured heel, down-stay, behavior modification for the chaser or the fence-fighter, and field trips that proof it all in public, with unlimited private lessons afterwards. VIP is the six-week off-leash program for the dog that has to be reliable across open land.

  • A loose leash for the subdivision sidewalk
  • A recall that beats cattle and rabbits
  • Place while the kids play
  • Calm at the fence when the neighbor's dog passes

How it works from Brookshire

Thirty-five minutes to Cypress, or the pickup at your door.

The training home is a house in Cypress off 290 near Fry Road, about 35 minutes from Brookshire by I-10 and the Grand Parkway outside rush hour. Plenty of Brookshire families drive it: drop off, meet the trainer, and return for the go-home session. The $250 transport is there for the families who cannot, and it brings the dog back with the first lesson taught in your own kitchen and on your own street.

Your dog lives inside the house with only a few other dogs and trains every day: house rules, the walk, place, and field trips to stores, sidewalks, parks and the lake as the weeks go on. Photo and video updates land on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The program ends with the go-home session, where you take over the handling.

Where we train near you

Katy Mills stores, Willow Creek Farms and the river bottom on a long line.

Follow-up lessons and go-home sessions in Brookshire use what is close. The stores around Katy Mills to the east give us aisles, carts and crowds for neutrality work. Willow Creek Farms' streets and greenbelts are the loose-leash classroom past strollers, scooters and other dogs. The Brazos River bottomland is for long-line recall in real distraction, never off leash near water, because the Brazos and its sloughs are alligator habitat.

Summer decides the schedule out here. From May to September outdoor work happens early or after seven, with a pavement check by hand, and the store aisles take the afternoons. Storm season runs June 1 through November 30, and the crate calm we build during a stay is what makes a flood watch or an evacuation drive manageable.

  • Store aisles near Katy Mills for neutrality
  • Willow Creek Farms sidewalks for the walk
  • Long-line recall in the river bottom, never off leash by water
  • Early and late sessions from May to September

Lessons and puppies in Brookshire

In-home lessons at $220 and the puppy bundle for the first Willow Creek puppy.

Private lessons in your Brookshire home are $220 a session, or $160 at the training home in Cypress. They suit the dog with basics and one issue, the follow-up after a stay, and the acreage family that wants the trainer to see the property. Follow-ups after Platinum and VIP are unlimited.

The Puppy Development Bundle is four sessions of 45 to 60 minutes for a puppy under four months, $750 in your home or $550 in Cypress. It sets up sit, place, stay, recall, crate and potty routines, socialization and the prevention of nipping and jumping. It is the right first call for a new Willow Creek Farms puppy, before the yard teaches it to dig and bark.

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this.

Do you pick up in Brookshire and Willow Creek Farms?

Yes. The $250 transportation service collects your dog at your door in Brookshire, Willow Creek Farms and the I-10 subdivisions, returns it at the end of the program and includes the first lesson in your home. VIP includes it. Drop-off in Cypress is welcome if you prefer to drive.

Is Brookshire in your service area for lessons?

Yes, at $220 per session in your home. We cover Brookshire, the west side of Katy and the acreage between. A single lesson suits one specific problem; a set of four to six suits a dog that needs the walk and the door rebuilt; a stay suits a dog that needs everything at once.

My dog chases the cattle next door. Can a stay fix that?

Chasing is prey drive without a brake, and the brake is a recall plus a down at a distance, both built in the Platinum program and proofed on field trips before we test them at your fence. We are candid on the call about what a high-drive dog will and will not reliably do.

How long is a board and train for a Brookshire family?

Two weeks for Gold, three for Platinum, six for VIP. Drop-off and go-home dates are set on the free call, and the go-home session is scheduled so both adults can attend where possible, since the handling has to be the same in every hand that holds the leash.

Where do the field trips go while my dog is with you?

Around the training home in Cypress: pet and hardware stores, sidewalks, parks and the lake, with the difficulty rising through the stay. When the dog comes home, the lesson moves to your street, the Katy Mills stores and, for acreage dogs, the long-line recall on your own land.
