Structure without harshness
Dog boot camp in Houston: the honest version, in a home
People search for boot camp when they are out of patience. The word promises something intense and fast, and part of that promise is right: immersion works. The other part, the idea that a dog gets broken into shape, is where most boot camps fail the dog and the family. This page describes the version we run.

Who is searching for boot camp
Boot camp buyers have usually tried everything else, and immersion is the right next step.
The exhausted owner. Group classes were fine in the room and useless on the sidewalk. A private trainer left homework that lasted a week. The dog still drags you down the street in Cinco Ranch and body-slams every guest. What this owner needs is not more instruction; it is a stretch of days where the rules never change, and that is what a stay in our home provides.
The dog with a hard edge. Growling over the couch, snapping at hands near the bowl, lunging at the neighbor's Lab through the fence. This buyer is often braced for a trainer who will get rough, because they assume that is what it takes. It is not. Our trainers have specialized in aggression and reactivity for 16 years with balanced training, and Platinum is built for exactly this dog.
The dog who just needs an off switch. High-energy adolescents with no place command, no wait at the door and no ability to settle are the most common boot camp callers. For them, two weeks of Gold does the job. Boot camp does not mean harsh; it means consistent, every hour, until the calm version of the dog is the default.
- Owners who have tried classes and lessons without lasting change
- Dogs with reactivity, guarding or a bite history who need real behavior work
- Adolescents with no off switch and no household rules
- Not a fit for anyone hoping the dog comes home afraid of being wrong

What immersion actually is
A boot camp day is a dozen short sessions and a lot of calm, not hours of drills.
Drop-off at the Cypress training home is unremarkable on purpose: crate, walk, meal, rest. Boot camp images suggest a dog gets worked from the first minute. A stressed dog does not learn, so the first day sets up the house and the routine. From day two the structure starts and does not stop, which is the honest meaning of immersion: the same rules at 7am, at noon and when the doorbell rings at 8pm.
Balanced training runs the sessions. Wanted behavior earns rewards, unwanted behavior meets a fair, consistent boundary, and the tool is chosen for the dog rather than the dog forced onto a tool. Platinum dogs then take the work into public on field trips, which is where boot camp stops being a yard exercise and becomes a dog who can go to a patio. The go-home session transfers all of it to you.
Day 1: arrival, crate, a quiet structured walk and a baseline video of the problem behavior for later comparison.
Days 2 to 4: marker words, leash pressure, sit/stay and place/stay, door boundaries; the structure becomes constant from here.
Days 5 to 7: impulse control at the bowl, the door and the leash; jumping and pulling are addressed at every opportunity, not in a scheduled slot.
Days 8 to 10 (Platinum): down/stay, structured heel, and behavior modification with the real trigger at a distance the dog can handle.
Days 11 to 14: proofing at home and on neighborhood streets; Gold dogs finish here with the go-home session.
Days 15 to 21 (Platinum): field trips to stores, lots and lake paths, a second handler for proofing, and the comprehensive handover.
Price and inclusions
Boot camp here costs $2,500 for two weeks or $3,750 for three, with the follow-up built in.
Gold at $2,500 is the manners boot camp: sit/stay, place/stay, loose leash walking, door boundaries, jumping, pulling and impulse control, then a go-home session, one additional lesson and lifelong support. Platinum at $3,750 is the behavior boot camp: everything in Gold plus down/stay, structured heel, behavior modification, field trips, a comprehensive handover and unlimited private lessons for life.
The $250 reservation deposit. Neither program is booked on the phone; the free consultation comes first, then a $250 deposit through Reserve Your Spot holds the start date and is applied toward the total. The training home keeps a limited number of dogs, which is part of why the structure holds, and part of why dates go quickly.
- No boot camp surcharge; Gold and Platinum are the boot camp
- $250 door-to-door transport adds a first lesson at your home
- $250 deposit, applied to the program price
- Updates three times a week so you see the work, not just the result

Houston specifics
A Houston boot camp has to train for heat, storms and crowded stores, or it is not training for Houston.
The drill-yard image falls apart here in July. From May to September the outdoor sessions run before 8am and after 7pm because pavement fails the hand test by mid-morning, and the intense part of the day happens indoors: place in the kitchen, waits at the door, heel in the hallway. Anyone running a dog in a yard at 2pm in August is not running a boot camp; they are risking heat stroke, and the AVMA's guidance is the standard we follow.
Public proofing is where Houston earns its place in the program. Platinum field trips go to the stores along 290 and Fry Road, parking lots on a Saturday, the paths at Towne Lake and, for dog-reactive dogs, sidewalks where other dogs are being walked on leash. If a stay overlaps June 1 to November 30, our team also has a hurricane plan in place for every dog in the home.
- Summer intensity moves indoors between 8am and 7pm
- Store aisles, lots and lake paths within a short drive of Cypress
- Katy, Cinco Ranch and Fulshear families are about 25 to 45 minutes away
- A storm plan for the house through hurricane season

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
How much is dog boot camp in Houston?
At Best Dog University the programs people mean by boot camp are the two-week Gold at $2,500 and the three-week Platinum at $3,750. Both include the stay in our Cypress home, all training, updates three times a week and a go-home session. Transport is $250, and a $250 reservation deposit holds the dates.
Is boot camp harsh on the dog?
Ours is not, and it does not need to be. Immersion works because the rules are consistent, not because they are severe. Our trainers use balanced training: rewards for the behavior we want, fair boundaries for the behavior we do not, and the right tool for the individual dog. A dog who comes home fearful has not been trained; he has been suppressed.
Will my dog come home a different dog?
He will come home with different habits and a clear idea of what earns him good things. His personality stays. The go-home session matters more than the phrase boot camp suggests, because the habits hold only if you run the same structure at home, and that is what our trainers teach you before you leave.
Does boot camp work for an aggressive dog?
Aggression is one of our trainers' three specialties, and Platinum is the program for it. Three weeks allows behavior modification with the trigger at a controlled distance, then public proofing, then unlimited private lessons to keep it holding at home. What we will not promise is a dog with a bite history who can be left unsupervised anywhere.
How is this different from a kennel boot camp?
The dog lives in our trainer's house in Cypress, not in a run, and trains at real doors, in a real kitchen and, on Platinum, in real Houston stores. A limited number of dogs are in the home at once and our team trains every one of them personally. That is why the structure transfers to your house instead of staying at the facility.
