Is there a discount for training two dogs?

Two-dog households ask this on almost every call, and it is a fair question. Here is how the pricing works, why it works that way, and where families with a pair actually spend less.

The short answer

Pricing is per dog because the training time, the space and the attention are per dog.

A board and train stay is not a room rate. Each dog in our trainer's Cypress home is trained on its own first, walked on its own and taken on its own field trips, because a dog working beside its housemate either leads or hides behind it. Two dogs are two full training schedules, and they take two of a small number of places in the house. That is why the published prices are per dog, and why we have not published a pair rate.

What two dogs from one family share is the handover. The go-home session covers the household, so you learn to run the door, the meals and the walk as a pair rather than one dog at a time. If the pair uses the $250 transport, that handover happens in your own hallway, where the door-dashing actually starts, and our trainer can place both beds and both crates in the rooms you really use.

  • Each dog trains on its own first
  • Two dogs take two of a limited number of places
  • Published prices are per dog
  • The go-home session is shared by the household

Where pairs save

The real saving is putting each dog in the program it needs, not a lower rate on both.

Many pairs are not two equal problems. A common split is a reactive dog in Platinum at $3,750 and an easy housemate in Gold at $2,500 on overlapping dates, so both go home together and the Platinum dog's unlimited lessons cover the two-dog walks afterward. Sometimes the calm dog does not need a stay at all, and one dog in a program plus a private lesson at home for the pair, $220, handles the household.

Sometimes the honest answer is that only one dog needs to come. If the second dog is quietly running the house, our team will say so. If it is not, you save the whole second program, which is a bigger saving than any discount would be.

  • One dog in Platinum, the other in Gold
  • One dog in a stay, a home lesson for the pair
  • Only the dog with the problem, when that is enough

Puppies and pairs

Two puppies, a puppy with an adult, and a pair that fights each call for a different kind of plan.

Two puppies under four months belong in the Puppy Development Bundle, four sessions at $550 in Cypress or $750 in your home, and the sessions are where our trainer sets up separate crates, separate walks and time apart so the pair grow into two confident dogs. Whether one bundle can cover both puppies depends on what they need, so ask on the call. A puppy joining an adult usually needs the adult's rules tightened, which is lesson work.

A pair that fights is a separate conversation. Our team asks how many fights, over what, and whether either dog has been hurt, before recommending anything, and some pairs are better served by one dog coming at a time. Where two dogs have drawn blood, the plan is built around safety first: strict separation, slow reintroduction and management at home that the family can keep up without exceptions.

Pricing it out

Before you call, work through the pair in this order and the quote gets simple.

These steps are the same ones our team uses on the phone. Doing them first means the call is about dates rather than guesses. Be specific in the first step: pulls toward other dogs on the Bridgeland trail is useful, while bad on walks is not.

The second step is the one families tend to skip. In most pairs one dog starts the barking, the door rush or the lunge, and the other joins in. Train the starter properly and the follower often settles with a few lessons, which is where a two-dog household keeps real money in its pocket.

1

Name the problem each dog has, separately, in a sentence

2

Decide which dog causes the trouble and which follows along

3

Match each dog to a program: Gold, Platinum, lessons or nothing

4

Add the $250 transport only if you want pickup and a first lesson at home

5

Ask our team how the dates can overlap so both come home together

6

Hold the dates with the $250 reservation deposit once the plan is set

At Best Dog University

We quote each dog honestly and plan the pair around a single handover in Cypress or at your house.

Two dogs from one family need more notice, because they take two places in a small home at once, and the fall is when calendars fill after a Houston summer. Pairs often book for October and November, when cool mornings let two dogs walk together on the Towne Lake boardwalk and the trails at Josey Lake without two sets of pads on hot concrete.

Families in Katy or Tomball, 25 to 35 minutes away outside rush hour, usually drop off both dogs themselves. Families in Pearland or Clear Lake more often ask about transport; our team will tell you how pickup works for two dogs when you call. Either way the handover teaches the pair routine where you will actually use it.

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this.

Is there a rescue, senior or military discount?

No separate rescue, senior, military or second-dog rate is published at the time of writing. Programs are priced per dog, and the prices on our pricing page apply to every family. If you have a question about anything current, ask our team on the free consultation call.

Can my two dogs share one go-home session?

Yes. When two dogs from one household finish together, the go-home session covers both, and it is where you learn the pair routine: who goes through the door first, how the leashes are held, and where each dog settles during dinner. That is often the most useful hour of the whole stay.

Can one dog do a stay and the other have lessons?

Often that is the best plan. The dog with the bigger problem does Gold or Platinum, and the easier dog joins private lessons at home, $220 each, or at the training home in Cypress, $160 each, so the household rules match for both.

Do two dogs train together during the stay?

Not at first. Each dog learns the basics alone, because a dog next to its housemate leans on it. Once each can hold a sit, a place and a loose leash on its own, the pair is worked together for doors, walks and settling side by side.

Is it cheaper to train one dog and let the other copy it?

Dogs do not learn manners by watching. The untrained dog keeps its habits, and the trained dog learns within a week that the rules are optional. If both dogs have the problem, both need the training, even if one needs much less of it.
