Board and train · Real price
How much is a 3 week board and train?
Three weeks is the length where board and train stops being obedience and starts being behavior change. This page lays out what the third week buys, who needs it and who does not.

The short version
The extra week and the unlimited lessons are what you are paying for.
Platinum costs more than Gold and delivers two things Gold cannot. The first is time: week three is spent proofing what was taught in weeks one and two, in stores, on trails and around the dogs and strangers that set your dog off. The second is the follow-through: unlimited private lessons after the stay instead of one, so the handover keeps happening for as long as you need it.
The skill list is longer too. Down with duration, a structured heel that keeps the dog's shoulder at your knee, impulse control around food and doors, and behavior modification for the dog who lunges, growls or panics. Every one of those is a skill our trainers cannot teach and proof in fourteen days without cutting corners.
- Everything in Gold, plus down and stay and a structured heel
- Behavior modification for reactivity and aggression
- Field trips and public exposure in week three
- Comprehensive handover, unlimited private lessons, lifetime support
The reasoning
Behavior does not change on the same clock as obedience.
A sit can be taught in a day. A dog who has practiced lunging at every dog on the Spring Creek Greenway for two years has a habit that lives in his body, and the only thing that replaces it is many calm repetitions at a distance that gradually shrinks. That takes days the two-week program does not have, because Gold spends its days on the manners list.
Then there is the family. A reactive or anxious dog goes home to the same triggers, and the handling matters more than with a jumpy Lab. Unlimited lessons mean you can call our team after the first bad walk in your neighborhood, not save up questions for a single visit. That is a large part of why the price is higher and why the results hold.
- Week one and two: teach; week three: proof in public
- Lessons continue after the stay, as many as you need
- Priced for the trainer's time, not for a kennel run
For your dog
Most adults thrive on three weeks, and some dogs should not buy less.
A puppy under four months is still a Puppy Development Bundle case, four sessions for $550 in Cypress or $750 in your home. From four to five months on, a puppy can start Platinum, and adolescents between six and eighteen months who have outgrown their family's patience are the most common dogs in the program. A calm adult with only manners problems may do fine with Gold and should be told so.
The dogs who should not buy less than Platinum are the ones with a growl, a lunge, a bite history or a panic response to being alone. Those cases need the behavior modification and the follow-up, and our team is direct about it on the phone consultation. VIP at $10,000 for six weeks exists for families who want off-leash reliability on top, not as a bigger fix for aggression.
Houston reality
Week three happens in the places your dog will actually have to behave.
The field trips are the reason to pick a Cypress trainer with a house on the northwest side. Within a short drive are the pet and hardware stores along 290 and Fry Road, the Towne Lake boardwalk with its patios, the Josey Lake trails in Bridgeland and the edge of Bill Archer Bark Park, where a reactive dog can practice neutrality on leash outside the fence. Between May and September those trips run at dawn and dusk, with the store aisles carrying the hot hours.
Distance is mostly a scheduling detail. Cinco Ranch families are about 25 to 35 minutes away, Creekside Park in The Woodlands about 35 to 45, and the Heights about 30 to 45. Many Platinum families add the $250 transport so the go-home session and the first lesson happen in the house where the behavior lives.

The price, side by side
Every length has a job, and Platinum is the one most families pick.
Silver, $1,500 for one week, is a foundation or refresher. Gold, $2,500 for two, is obedience and manners. Platinum, $3,750 for three, is behavior change with unlimited follow-up. VIP, $10,000 for six, is service-dog-level obedience with the e-collar, transport and in-home lessons included. Our team recommends by the dog in front of them, and for reactivity, anxiety and aggression the answer is Platinum far more often than anything else.
The programs
Three weeks, and the programs on either side of it.
Platinum is the most popular stay at Best Dog University; Gold is the shorter obedience program and VIP the six-week off-leash program.
Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
What does $3,750 include that $2,500 does not?
A third week spent proofing in public, down with duration, a structured heel, behavior modification for reactivity and aggression, field trips, a comprehensive handover and unlimited private lessons instead of one. Lifetime support is part of both programs. Transport at $250 is optional with either and includes the first lesson in your home.
Is three weeks long enough for an aggressive dog?
For most reactivity and much aggression, three weeks is enough to change the dog's default and give the family the handling, with the honest caveat that aggression is managed and reduced rather than removed. Dogs with a serious bite history are discussed case by case on the phone consultation, and sometimes the answer is a plan that includes your vet.
Can I split the payment or use the deposit toward it?
The $250 deposit is what reserves your dates once the phone consultation confirms Platinum is the right program. Our team walks through the rest of the payment timing with you when you book, so there are no surprises at drop-off. Tell them if you are booking around a trip so the go-home session lands before you travel.
Why is Platinum the most popular program?
Because it is the shortest stay that covers behavior as well as obedience, and because the unlimited lessons remove the fear of being on your own afterward. Families who start by asking about two weeks often move to three once they hear what the third week does with the triggers that brought them to us.
