Platinum vs VIP
Platinum vs VIP board and train: three weeks or six
VIP is the program families ask about after watching an off-leash dog heel through a crowded Memorial Park trail, and Platinum is the program most of them actually need. This page is honest about the gap between the two, because the difference is $6,250 and three more weeks away from home.

Side by side
Platinum finishes a good dog; VIP builds a working-level one.
Platinum is our most popular program for a reason: three weeks covers obedience, structured heel, down/stay, behavior modification for reactivity and aggression, field trips into public places and a comprehensive handover, and it leaves you with unlimited private lessons and lifetime support. A Platinum graduate walks calmly past dogs near Bill Archer Bark Park, holds a place while dinner is served, and settles on a patio.
VIP doubles the time and changes the standard. Six weeks is what it takes to build complete off-leash reliability: recall through distraction, front and center positioning, duration stays measured in many minutes, all proofed across Houston environments. The Mini-Educator e-collar is included and introduced only after the dog knows every command on leash. Transport home and the in-home handover are included, and follow-up is unlimited in-home lessons directly with our team.
| Platinum Board & Train | VIP Service-Dog-Level | |
|---|---|---|
| Length and price | 3 weeks, $3,750 | 6 weeks, $10,000 |
| Standard | Reliable on leash in public | Service-dog-level obedience, complete off-leash reliability |
| Skills beyond obedience | Structured heel, down/stay, behavior modification, field trips | Front and center positioning, duration stays, off-leash proofing everywhere |
| Tools | The right tool for the dog, taught at handover | Mini-Educator e-collar included and conditioned |
| Getting home | Drop-off and pick-up, or $250 transportation | Transport home included, in-home handover |
| Follow-up | Unlimited private lessons at the training home, lifetime support | Unlimited in-home lessons, lifetime support directly with our team |
When Platinum wins
Platinum wins for almost every family dog, including reactive ones.
If your goal is a dog you can take anywhere on a leash, Platinum gets you there. The three weeks include the behavior modification most Houston families need, whether the dog lunges at other dogs on the Terry Hershey trail or barks at every neighbor in a Creekside Park cul-de-sac. The field trips build calm in exactly the places you go, and the unlimited lessons afterward mean you can bring the dog back whenever something slips.
Platinum also wins on plain arithmetic. It is $6,250 less than VIP and three weeks shorter, and the per-day price is lower. A family who wants a calm house, a pleasant walk and a dog who can sit at a restaurant patio has no reason to pay for off-leash reliability they will not use. Houston is a leash city: parks and trails generally expect one outside fenced dog areas at the time of writing, and a Platinum dog on a leash is a finished dog for that life.
- Your goal is calm on a leash in public
- The dog is reactive but has not bitten
- You want lessons afterward at the training home
- Three weeks away is already a stretch for the family
- $3,750 is the sensible ceiling
When VIP wins
VIP wins when off leash is the goal or the history is serious.
Some families genuinely need a dog who works without a leash: acreage in Magnolia or Tomball where the dog moves with the family, a boat on Lake Conroe, a hunting lease, a household where a wheelchair or a stroller makes leash handling hard. Off-leash reliability across distractions is a six-week build, not a three-week one, and the e-collar conditioning takes its own careful time. That is VIP.
VIP is also where our team places dogs with a real bite history or aggression that has already put someone at risk. Six weeks gives the dog long enough to change its default, and the in-home handover plus unlimited in-home lessons keep our trainers involved in the exact rooms where the problem happened. VIP dogs also learn the calm, positioned behavior that lets them accompany a person through a day, which is why the name says service-dog-level. It is not service dog certification or task training.
- Off-leash reliability is a real need, not a wish
- A bite history or aggression that has escalated
- You want the e-collar included and conditioned properly
- Acreage, water or a lifestyle where leashes fail
- You want every follow-up lesson in your own home

What Houston families choose
Platinum first, and a few families choose VIP for a specific reason.
The honest pattern: Platinum is the default for family dogs, and VIP is a deliberate choice for a small number of households with a specific need. Families in The Woodlands with forest trails and deer, families with acreage out toward Hockley, and families with a dog who has bitten are the ones our team usually steers to six weeks. The rest are steered to three, even when they call asking for VIP.
Summer changes the calculus slightly. A six-week stay that starts in June runs through the hottest weeks, so off-leash proofing happens in the early morning and evening and in stores during the day. Our team plans around it, and the Monday, Wednesday and Friday videos show you the work. If you are choosing VIP for off-leash goals, a fall start gives more cool daylight for the outdoor proofing.
How to decide
Five steps to know if you really need six weeks.
The gap between the two is large, so be strict with yourself here. Our team will be strict too, in your favor: we do not place a dog in VIP because the family can afford it.
Picture the dog a year from now. If it is on a leash in every picture, stop: Platinum.
Name the off-leash situation. If it is a fenced yard or a dog park, Platinum handles it.
Ask whether anyone has been bitten or nearly bitten. If yes, talk to our team about VIP.
Decide whether you want the e-collar. VIP includes it and the conditioning; Platinum does not.
Check the calendar. Six weeks away from the family is real; make sure everyone is ready.
The programs
Our two longest programs.
Platinum is the most popular program in the house. VIP is the six-week build for off-leash reliability and the hardest cases.
Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Is VIP a service dog program?
No. VIP builds service-dog-level obedience and off-leash reliability, meaning the dog behaves with the steadiness people associate with working dogs. It does not certify a service dog or teach medical tasks. If you need a task-trained service dog, that is a different process, and our team will say so on the call.
Can a Platinum dog go off leash later?
In a fenced yard or a fenced dog park, usually yes, and the unlimited private lessons can build recall further. Full off-leash reliability in open, distracting places is a VIP outcome, because it needs six weeks of proofing and proper e-collar conditioning. Ask our team about a second stay if the goal changes.
Why is VIP $10,000 when Platinum is $3,750?
Six weeks of daily training instead of three, the Mini-Educator e-collar and its conditioning, transport home, an in-home handover and unlimited in-home lessons for life instead of lessons at the training home. It is priced as a complete, finished dog. For a leash-in-public goal, Platinum is the better value.
Does Platinum handle aggression, or is that VIP only?
Platinum includes behavior modification for reactivity and aggression and is where most cases go. VIP is chosen when there is a bite history, when aggression has escalated, or when the family also wants off-leash reliability. The free phone consultation is where our team hears the history and names the program.
