Puppies, honestly assessed
Puppy board and train in Houston: when it fits, and when the bundle fits
Families call us with a twelve-week-old puppy and ask for board and train, and the honest answer is usually not yet. Families call with a seven-month-old who has stopped listening and ask for private lessons, and the honest answer is often that two weeks in our home would get more done. This page sorts out which is which.

Bundle or board and train
Under four months the bundle fits; past it, a Gold stay usually does.
The young puppy, eight to sixteen weeks. Crate routine, potty timing, name recognition, sit, place, a puppy recall and the beginnings of a leash. Every one of those is a habit you build at home a dozen times a day, which is why the Puppy Development Bundle is four sessions with you in the room. Our trainers coach you and the puppy together, and the puppy sleeps in his own crate at night.
The older puppy, roughly five to twelve months. This is where board and train earns its place. The dog is big enough to pull, confident enough to ignore you and old enough for a full sit/stay, place/stay and door boundary curriculum. Two weeks of Gold in our Cypress home installs the structure before adolescence turns habits into arguments.
The puppy with a real problem. A young dog who guards food, hides from strangers or has already nipped a child hard needs more than manners, and for those cases our team may recommend Platinum even at a young age. That decision is made on the free phone consultation, never by age alone, and it takes into account how the puppy handles a crate and time away from you.
- Under four months: Puppy Development Bundle, $550 in Cypress or $750 in-home
- Past the bundle window and testing you: two-week Gold, $2,500
- Guarding, fear or hard nipping at any age: our team assesses for Platinum
- Vaccination status and crate comfort are checked before any stay is booked

A puppy's two weeks
A Gold stay for a puppy is shorter sessions, more naps and the same rules all day.
Drop-off with a puppy is gentler. You bring his food, his crate blanket if he has one and his shot records to the Cypress training home, or our team picks him up for $250. The first day is naps, short potty trips to the same spot and a meal for a sit. Nothing is drilled. A puppy who is anxious learns nothing, so day one is about the house feeling safe.
The training days run in five-to-ten-minute bursts spread across the day rather than long sessions, because a puppy's attention span is measured in minutes. Between bursts he rests in the crate or on place, which teaches the off switch that most Houston families are missing by month eight. Updates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday show you the sessions and the naps, because both matter.
Days 1 to 2: crate and potty routine on a strict clock, name and marker words, meals earned with a sit.
Days 3 to 5: sit/stay and place/stay in short bursts, leash introduced on the driveway with no pulling allowed to work.
Days 6 to 8: door boundaries at the front door and the back gate; the walk moves to the quiet streets around the house.
Days 9 to 11: impulse control: waiting for the bowl, no jumping on people who enter, calm greetings with adult dogs in the home.
Days 12 to 13: duration on place while the household moves, and a proofing walk with a second handler.
Day 14: the go-home session, then your additional lesson a couple of weeks later once the puppy has tested your rules.
Price and inclusions
The bundle is $550 or $750; puppy board and train is the $2,500 Gold program.
There is no separate puppy price for board and train. A puppy who is ready for a stay goes into the two-week Gold at $2,500 and gets the full Gold curriculum, the go-home session, one additional lesson and lifelong support. Families who start with the bundle and later want a stay simply book Gold when the time comes; the two are not a package.
The $250 reservation deposit. For a Gold stay, a $250 deposit holds the dates and is applied to the $2,500. The bundle is booked directly with our team as four sessions of 45 to 60 minutes. Because puppies grow fast, our trainers keep a close eye on timing so the bundle finishes before the puppy is too old to benefit from it.
- $550 or $750 for the four-session bundle, depending on location
- $2,500 Gold for a puppy stay, with the additional lesson included
- $250 deposit for a board and train, applied to the total
- $250 pickup and return includes the first lesson at your house

Houston specifics
Raising a puppy in Houston means heat, mosquitoes and storms during the months that matter most.
Puppy paws burn faster than adult paws, and a puppy born in spring hits his prime training months in July. Our trainers keep young dogs off pavement between late morning and early evening from May through September, use grass and shaded sidewalks in Bridgeland and Fairfield, and run the socialization outings in air-conditioned stores. The AVMA's heat guidance is what we follow and what we hand to families.
Heartworm prevention is not seasonal here. Mosquitoes fly through most of the Houston winter, so a puppy should be on prevention from his vet before any stay, and his vaccine schedule should be current for the environments he will visit. Bring the records to drop-off. If a stay overlaps hurricane season, our team keeps a storm plan for every dog in the house and shares it with you.
- No pavement in the hot hours; grass, shade and stores from May to September
- Heartworm prevention started with your vet before the stay
- Socialization in stores along 290, not dog parks, until the vaccine series is done
- Katy and Cypress families are 25 to 35 minutes away; The Woodlands about 35 to 45

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
How old does a puppy need to be for board and train?
There is no single cutoff, and our team decides on the free phone consultation. As a rule, puppies under four months belong in the Puppy Development Bundle with you present, and puppies who have outgrown that window and are comfortable in a crate are candidates for the two-week Gold stay. Temperament and vaccination status matter as much as the calendar.
How much is puppy board and train in Houston?
A puppy who is ready for a stay goes into the Gold Board & Train at $2,500 for two weeks, the same price as an adult. The Puppy Development Bundle, for puppies under four months, is $550 for four sessions in Cypress or $750 in your home. Transport for a stay is $250 and includes the first lesson at home.
Will my puppy be potty trained after board and train?
He will come home on a schedule that works, and our trainers will show you the schedule at the go-home session. Potty training is a routine, not a command, and it holds only if the same routine continues in your house. For puppies under four months, the bundle covers potty and crate guidance directly with you.
Is two weeks away from home hard on a puppy?
A puppy who is crate-comfortable and past the bundle window settles into the training home quickly, because the day is structured, quiet and predictable. He lives in a house with our trainers, not a kennel run. A very young or clingy puppy is a different story, which is exactly why we recommend the bundle for that age.
Can I do the bundle and then a Gold stay later?
Yes, and many families do. The bundle handles the first four months at home with you, and a Gold stay later in the first year installs the full obedience foundation once the puppy is old enough to hold it. They are booked separately, and the bundle is not a prerequisite for a stay.
