$160 or $220
Private lessons at the training home vs in your home: $160 or $220
Same trainer, same hour, same dog. The only variable is the address, and it matters more than the price gap suggests. This page explains what changes when the lesson moves, which problems belong to which location, and what families across Houston, Katy and The Woodlands usually do.

Side by side
The lesson is the same; the location changes what can be worked on.
At the training home in Cypress our trainer has a yard, a house with real doors, quiet neighborhood streets and the stores along 290 and Fry Road within minutes. A dog can go from a place command in the living room to a heel past a pet store entrance in one session. There are no family distractions, which is a strength for teaching and a weakness for transfer. It is $160 per session.
In your home our trainer works with the actual trigger: the doorbell, the back gate, the couch the dog guards, the kids coming home from school. The plan is built for your layout and your family's habits. It is $220 across the service area, and the drive time is on us. The table lays out what each location does best, and where each one falls short.

When Cypress wins
Cypress wins for skills, assessments and any problem that happens everywhere.
Heel, recall, place and impulse control are not tied to an address. A dog who pulls on Fry Road pulls on your street, so teaching it here costs $60 less and gives our trainer a controlled setup. The property lets us stage distractions in order: a door, a person, a dog at a distance, a store entrance. That order is hard to arrange in a Bridgeland cul-de-sac where the neighbor's Husky appears whenever he likes.
Cypress also wins for a first consultation of a reactive or anxious dog. Our trainer can see the dog away from the family patterns that may be feeding the behavior, and can test responses safely. And it wins on money for a series. Over six lessons the gap is more than the price of two extra sessions here. If the drive is 25 to 35 minutes from Katy or Tomball, that is a fair trade for many families.
- Heel, recall, place, leash skills
- A first consultation of a reactive or anxious dog
- You are booking a series and the drive is under 40 minutes
- You want staged distractions in a set order
- The puppy bundle at $550 rather than $750
When in-home wins
In-home wins when the problem is a door, a room, a child or a second dog.
Door rushing, barking at the front window, guarding the sofa, a crate in the wrong spot, a puppy who will not potty in the yard: these problems are made of your house, and our trainer needs to see the house. A lesson at $220 that fixes the doorbell reaction in your Memorial hallway is worth more than three lessons in Cypress that practice a doorbell reaction in ours.
It also wins whenever the humans are the variable: a toddler who runs, a teenager who feeds the dog from the table, a second dog who sets the first one off. Multi-dog households almost always need an in-home session. And it wins for people who cannot easily get to Cypress. From Pearland, Sugar Land or League City the drive is 45 to 70 minutes each way, and an in-home lesson costs less than the afternoon lost.
- Door, window, crate or potty problems
- Guarding the couch, the bed or a person
- Kids or a second dog are part of the pattern
- The drive to Cypress is over 45 minutes
- The Puppy Development Bundle for a puppy under four months

What Houston families choose
Houston families usually mix the two: a home visit first, then Cypress for the reps.
The most common sequence our team sees is one in-home lesson to see the problem and set up the house, followed by Cypress lessons for the skills, followed by one more visit home to check the transfer. That keeps the total cost down and puts the $220 sessions where they earn it. Families from Katy, Spring and Tomball, all within about 35 minutes, lean toward Cypress for the series.
Season plays a part. From May to September an in-home lesson can be scheduled around the heat because the training moves to your air-conditioned living room and the early-evening street. In hurricane season, a lesson at your home is also where our trainer can help set up the crate and the safe room the dog will need if you shelter in place. Ask about it; it takes ten minutes.
How to decide
Decide the address in five steps.
Go through these before you book, and tell our team the answers on the phone. The sequence at the end is the one most families settle on.
Write the problem down. If a room, a door or a person in your house is in the sentence, book in-home.
If the problem is a skill the dog lacks everywhere, book Cypress and keep the $60.
Count the household: kids under ten or a second dog means at least one in-home lesson.
Check the drive. Under 40 minutes, Cypress is fine for a series; over 45, in-home usually costs less in time.
Ask our team to suggest a sequence. One home visit, then Cypress reps, then a home check is the usual shape.
The programs

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Why is the in-home lesson $60 more?
The extra covers our trainer's travel across the Houston service area and the time around it, so the hour with your dog is the same length in both places. You are also paying for the setting: the lesson happens where the problem happens, which for household issues is worth far more than the difference.
How long is a private lesson?
Plan on about an hour of hands-on work with our trainer, at the training home or at yours. The Puppy Development Bundle sessions run 45 to 60 minutes because a young puppy tires quickly. Every lesson ends with a plan for the week, so the next session builds on real practice rather than starting over.
Can I bring two dogs to one lesson in Cypress?
Talk to our team first. Two dogs from the same household often need an in-home session because the problem is how they behave together in your space. If the goal is individual skills, two separate lessons in Cypress usually work better than one shared hour, and our team will tell you which applies.
Are lessons after a board and train charged at these rates?
Gold includes one additional lesson. Platinum includes unlimited private lessons at the training home in Cypress for the life of the dog. VIP includes unlimited in-home lessons. The $250 transportation service also includes the first lesson in your home. Outside those inclusions, the standard $160 and $220 rates apply.
