Summerwood, Houston
Dog training in Summerwood: lake trails, greenbelts and Beltway commutes
Summerwood sits off Beltway 8 at West Lake Houston Parkway, with lakes, greenbelt trails and HOA rules, and Fall Creek and Eagle Springs next door. Its families commute: out on the Beltway before seven, home after six. The dog gets a short walk at each end of a long day and a lake view in between, and the stored-up energy comes out as pulling, jumping and barking.

Summerwood dogs
The commuter's dog: a long day alone, then everything at once at six o'clock.
The Summerwood dog we hear about is a Lab, a boxer, a husky or a shepherd mix that spends the workday in a crate or the backyard and the evening making up for it. The garage door goes up and the dog launches at whoever walks in. The evening loop around the lake becomes a drag race toward every goose and every other dog. Weekends are calmer, and then Monday brings the whole pattern back.
Gold, two weeks, gives this dog a structure it can live inside: a crate it rests in, place, a loose leash, door boundaries and impulse control. Platinum, three weeks, adds the structured heel, down-stay, behavior modification for a dog whose frustration has turned into reactivity on the lake trail, field trips and unlimited lessons afterwards. We also talk honestly about the day itself: a young dog alone for ten hours may need a midday walker, and training does not replace one.
- A calm greeting when the garage door opens
- A loose leash around the lake past geese and dogs
- A crate the dog rests in through the workday
- A quiet evening instead of a second shift of chaos
How it works from Summerwood
Forty-five minutes around the Beltway, so the pickup saves your morning.
Our trainer's house, the training home, sits in Cypress off 290 near Fry Road. From Summerwood it is about 45 minutes outside rush hour, west on Beltway 8 to 290, and much longer at commute hours. A family that already spends two hours a day on the Beltway rarely wants two more trips, so most take the $250 transport: pickup at your door, return at the end of the program and the first lesson in your home the same day.
Drop-off is always welcome, and drop-off families do the go-home session in Cypress. Either way the dog lives inside the house with a limited number of other dogs and no kennel runs, trains every day and goes on field trips to stores, sidewalks, parks and the lake once it is ready. Photos and video reach your phone on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, easy to check from your desk.

Where we train near you
Summerwood's lakes and greenbelts, the neighbors next door and Lake Houston.
The go-home session and the follow-up lessons use Summerwood's own lake and greenbelt trails first, because that is where the evening walk happens: runners, strollers, geese and other dogs. The sidewalks of Fall Creek and Eagle Springs next door give a dog unfamiliar streets to walk politely, which matters more than people expect. Lake Houston is the bigger exam, for a water recall on a long line and calm on a shoreline with people and boats.
Lake Houston and the lakes inside the community are alligator habitat, like fresh water across the region, so the leash stays on at the bank. The east side of the metro takes heavy rain from spring storms and from hurricane season, June 1 to November 30, and a dog that is calm in a crate handles a power cut or a night of thunder much better. From May to September we walk early and late, after a hand test on the pavement.
- Lake and greenbelt trails for the evening walk
- Fall Creek and Eagle Springs sidewalks for new streets
- Lake Houston on a long line for the water recall
- The leash stays on at every bank
Lessons and puppies in Summerwood
Evening and weekend lessons at $220, and a puppy bundle that fits a commute.
Private lessons at your Summerwood home are $220 a session. Our hours run from six in the morning to nine at night every day, so a commuting family can often book a lesson in the early evening or on a Saturday, when the problem is actually happening. Lessons at the training home in Cypress are $160. After Platinum or VIP the follow-up lessons are unlimited, and they are the easiest way to keep the evening walk calm.
A puppy under four months takes the Puppy Development Bundle: four sessions of 45 to 60 minutes, $750 at home or $550 in Cypress. It covers sit, place, stay, recall, crate and potty routines, socialization and the nipping and jumping stage. For a commuting household the crate routine comes first, because a puppy that can rest through the hours you are gone is the foundation for everything else.

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Where is Summerwood, and how far is your training home?
Summerwood is a master-planned community in northeast Houston, off Beltway 8 at West Lake Houston Parkway, next to Fall Creek and Eagle Springs and close to Lake Houston. The training home in Cypress is about 45 minutes away outside rush hour, west on the Beltway to 290, and the $250 pickup handles the drive for most families.
My dog is crated all day while we commute. Is that a problem?
A crate is a good place for a dog to rest, and many dogs handle a workday in one when the morning walk and the evening routine are right. A young dog alone for ten hours usually needs a midday break as well. Training builds the calm; the schedule is a conversation we have honestly on the call.
Do you pick up in Summerwood?
Yes. The $250 transportation service collects your dog at your door in Summerwood, returns it when the program ends and includes the first lesson in your home. The six-week VIP program includes it. If you would rather drive, drop off in Cypress and do the go-home session at the training home.
Can you train my dog around Lake Houston?
Yes. Follow-up lessons can include a long-line recall and calm on the shoreline once the walk holds on your own streets. We keep the leash on near the water because Lake Houston is alligator habitat, and in summer we pick early or late hours when the shore is cooler and quieter.
Can lessons happen after work?
Often, yes. Our team works from 6am to 9pm daily, so early evening and weekend lessons are common for Summerwood families. That timing is useful, since the garage-door greeting and the evening walk are the problems most commuters want fixed, and we train them when they happen.
