Board and train, Stafford

Board and train in Stafford: between Sugar Land and Missouri City

Stafford is a small city with long commutes, and the typical Stafford dog spends nine hours alone before an evening walk it has been waiting all day for. A stay in a house teaches that dog to rest when nothing is happening and to walk without pulling when something finally is.

The stay, from Stafford

Forty minutes up 99, or a pickup before your commute starts.

Stafford sits close enough that many families drive: 99 to 290, drop-off at the training home in Cypress in the morning, and back at the office by mid-morning. Bring the dog's food, its vaccination records and anything the vet has prescribed. Families with a tight schedule add the $250 transport instead; our trainer collects the dog at your door before or after your commute, and the ride north is the first lesson in calm car behavior. Day one in the house is decompression, not drills.

The training then runs daily inside the home, on the sidewalks around it and in the stores and at the lake near Cypress. Monday, Wednesday and Friday you get pictures and short clips, usually of the dog doing something you have never seen it do. The go-home session is where you learn the handling: in Cypress if you drove, in your own home if the dog came by transport or finished VIP.

What a Stafford dog practices

Settling for hours, then walking Oyster Creek without dragging you.

The Stafford dog has two lives: the long empty day and the short crowded evening. The stay builds both halves. Place and crate work teach a dog to rest with the house quiet and to stay quiet when the delivery driver knocks. The structured walk gets taught on the training home's streets and then proofed in busier places, so that the Oyster Creek trail on the Sugar Land side, with its bikes and evening walkers, is a walk rather than a workout. Sugar Land's parks pages publish the trail rules; check them before you go.

Store trips are part of every program. The hardware and pet stores along 290 near Cypress stand in for the ones along 59 and Highway 90 you will actually use, and a dog that can hold a down in an aisle can hold one on a patio near the Stafford Centre. In summer the outdoor work happens at dawn and after dark and the aisles carry the afternoons, so a July stay loses nothing to the heat.

  • A settle that lasts an entire workday
  • Quiet at the door for deliveries
  • A loose leash on the Oyster Creek trail
  • A down-stay in a store aisle on 59

Which program

Gold for the puller, Platinum for the dog that cannot switch off.

A Stafford dog that is friendly but wild in the evening, pulling and jumping and barking at the window, fits Gold: two weeks at $2,500 for sit, place, loose leash, door manners and impulse control, plus the go-home session and one follow-up lesson. A dog that spins in the crate, screams when you leave, lunges at dogs on the trail or has started guarding the couch fits Platinum: three weeks at $3,750 with behavior modification, field trips and unlimited private lessons, which is why most Stafford families pick it.

VIP at $10,000 is six weeks for the family that wants off-leash reliability and a handover in their own home with unlimited in-home lessons afterward. For a commuter household it is usually more program than the dog needs, and our team will say so on the consultation call. Silver, one week at $1,500, is a refresher for a graduate, not a first stay for a dog with problems.

  • Gold, $2,500: the evening manners set
  • Platinum, $3,750: anxiety, reactivity, unlimited lessons
  • VIP, $10,000: off leash and an in-home handover

Prices and the deposit

What a Stafford stay costs, and what the $250 deposit does.

The deposit is $250, it reserves your dates, and it comes off the price of the program. Transport is a flat $250 for pickup and return, door to door, with the first lesson at your home built in, and VIP includes it. There are no address surcharges; a Stafford family pays exactly what a Cypress family pays. The pricing page lists every program, including the puppy bundle and private lessons, if a full stay is more than your dog needs right now.

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this.

Is 40 minutes too far to drop off myself?

No. Plenty of Stafford families drive the 99 to 290 route twice, once to drop off and once for the go-home session in Cypress. The transport is for families who cannot leave work mid-morning or who want the handover done in their own house, where the door and the window problems actually live.

My dog is alone from seven to six. Can a stay fix separation anxiety?

A Platinum stay builds the crate and place skills and the calm a dog needs to be alone, and the unlimited lessons afterward keep the routine honest once you are back at work. True panic when left is behavior work, not manners, so tell our team on the consultation call and we will be straight about what three weeks can do.

Where do the updates come from?

From our trainers, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, as photos and short videos of the actual training: a walk on the training home's street, a down in a store aisle, a wait at the lake. You will not get a daily feed, and you will not be asked to visit, because visits set the dog back.

Does the go-home session cover my apartment building?

Yes, if the dog comes home by transport or through VIP. Our trainer runs the session in your unit, the hallway, the stairwell or elevator, and the sidewalk outside, because that is where a Stafford apartment dog has to behave. Drop-off families do the session in Cypress and can book an in-home lesson later.

What should I bring to drop-off?

The dog's regular food for the length of the stay, current vaccination records and any medication with instructions, plus a few minutes to describe what the dog does at home. Our team confirms the full list on the consultation call, and anything you forget can be sorted out on the day.
