Board and train, Pinehurst

Board and train in Pinehurst: a short hop up 249 past Tomball

Pinehurst is wooded lots, deer at the fence line, the Woodtrace and Decker Prairie subdivisions and dogs with more room than rules. The skills that matter are a recall past a deer, a boundary at the driveway and a walk that stays loose when the trail gets busy.

The stay, from Pinehurst

Down 249 through Tomball to drop off, and a recall you can watch improve on video.

Pinehurst families come down 249 through Tomball to the training home in Cypress, about 20 to 30 minutes outside rush hour. Drop-off takes a few minutes: the food, medications and records handed over, and a plain account of what your dog does when a deer steps out of the trees or a neighbor's dog trots past the drive. Then the dog comes into the house, and day one is settling in: the crate, the yard, a quiet walk and a routine it can predict.

The rest of the stay is daily work, in the training home, on the sidewalks and stores around it and, for Platinum and VIP, on the trails where the recall gets tested against real scent. You see it on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in photos and short clips. The go-home session is the last day: at the training home for drop-off families, and on your own lot with the $250 transport or VIP, where our trainer walks the fence line with you.

What a Pinehurst dog practices

Recall past deer, a driveway boundary and a heel on a wooded trail.

A Pinehurst dog has usually taught itself that the woods are its own: it goes after deer, ignores the call from the porch and treats the end of the driveway as a suggestion. The stay starts that dog on a long line near the training home, building a recall with a reward it wants more than the chase, then a stop and a down at distance, then a boundary that holds at the drive when something moves on the other side of the road.

Field trips match the terrain. Kleb Woods Nature Preserve gives shaded trails and wildlife scent; Burroughs Park in Tomball, run by Harris County Precinct 4, gives fields, ponds and other dogs at a distance; the stores along 249 give aisles and strangers. Platinum dogs also work the sidewalks around the training home so the neutrality holds in town. Check the precinct's site for the park's current rules before you go on your own.

  • Long-line recall proofed against wildlife scent
  • A stop and a down at distance
  • A boundary at the driveway that holds
  • A loose leash on the Kleb Woods trails

Which program Pinehurst families choose

Platinum for the deer chaser, VIP for the dog that should be off leash in the trees.

Gold at $2,500 works for the friendly dog with no manners: two weeks of sit and stay, place, the loose leash, door boundaries, jumping and impulse control, with a go-home session, one more lesson and lifelong support. Platinum at $3,750 is the fit when the dog chases, guards the porch or panics in a storm; three weeks adds behavior modification, structured heel and field trips, and the unlimited private lessons afterwards mean the recall gets rehearsed on your own lot with our trainer as often as you like.

VIP at $10,000 is the six-week program for a wooded lot with no fence and a family that wants the dog reliable off leash across all of it, with the Mini-Educator included and introduced properly, duration stays, transport home and the handover done on your land. For Pinehurst it is the program that matches the terrain.

  • Gold for manners in two weeks
  • Platinum for chasing, guarding and unlimited lessons
  • VIP for off-leash reliability on a wooded lot

Prices and the deposit

What a Pinehurst stay costs, and when to add the $250 transport.

Gold is $2,500, Platinum $3,750, VIP $10,000, the same numbers on the pricing page. The $250 reservation deposit reserves the dates and comes off the total. Transport is $250 door to door with the first lesson at your home and is included in VIP. From Pinehurst the drive is short enough that most families drop off, but a wooded lot with deer on the fence line is a reason to have the go-home session at home, because the recall past a deer is the whole point and it cannot be demonstrated in Cypress.

Private lessons afterwards are $160 at the training home or $220 at your lot; Platinum and VIP include them without limit. Graduates can book boarding with training refreshers, which keeps the recall sharp while you are away instead of letting it fade in a kennel. Hours are 6am to 9pm daily for calls and drop-offs, the consultation call is free, and the pricing page lists every number in one place.

Pinehurst specifics

Deer at dawn, snakes in the brush and a summer that moves the training day.

Deer move at dawn and dusk, which is exactly when a summer walk has to happen, so the recall is proofed at those hours on purpose. Snakes and fire ants live in the brush on a wooded lot, and the go-home walk covers where to practice safely. From May to September outdoor sessions run early and late, with the 249 stores carrying the midday work. Storm season, June 1 to November 30, can bring downed pines and long power outages out here, so the plan for the dog is agreed at booking.

  • Recall proofed at dawn and dusk
  • Snake and fire ant awareness on the go-home walk
  • Early and late sessions from May to September
  • Storm plan agreed before drop-off

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this.

How far is Pinehurst from the training home?

About 20 to 30 minutes outside rush hour, down 249 through Tomball to Cypress, where the training home sits off 290 near Fry Road. Drop-off is the usual choice at that distance, and the address comes with your booking.

Can you stop my dog chasing deer?

A reliable recall past deer is built in stages: long line, a reward that beats the chase, distance, then wildlife scent on the Kleb Woods trails. Platinum gets most dogs there on a long line; VIP, with the Mini-Educator introduced properly over six weeks, is the program for off-leash reliability in the trees.

Is the training home a kennel?

No. It is our trainer's house in Cypress, with a limited number of dogs at a time. Your dog sleeps in a crate inside, eats on place and trains in the house and on real sidewalks, trails and store aisles. That is why the results carry over to a wooded lot and a quiet street.

Should I add the transport from Pinehurst?

Only if you want the go-home session on your own lot. At 20 to 30 minutes, drop-off is easy. The $250 transport makes sense when the fence line, the driveway and the deer are what you want our trainer to work through with you on the spot.

What if my dog is afraid of thunderstorms?

Tell our team on the consultation call. Storm fear is anxiety, and Platinum at $3,750 has the three weeks of behavior modification it needs, plus unlimited lessons afterwards. The crate becomes a calm place during the stay, and the go-home session covers what to do the first time it storms after the dog is home.
