Pinehurst dogs
The deer at dusk is why Pinehurst dogs come to us.
Almost every Pinehurst call includes a deer. A Lab, a shepherd or a heeler sees one at the tree line, forgets that it has a name, and is gone through the pines. The wooded lots that make the area beautiful make the recall essential, because the dog cannot see the road it is running toward and neither can you. Squirrels, armadillos and the neighbor's cat do the same job on a smaller scale.
We do not train a recall by shouting it louder. We build it in stages, from the living room to the yard to a long line in open fields, and then, in Platinum and VIP, off the line in public places with real distractions. A dog that has come back through all of that will come back from a deer, and the VIP program adds the e-collar reliability that lets a Pinehurst dog be off leash on its own land.
Days one to three: the word means food and praise, every time, indoors
The yard at the training home: recall past toys and other dogs
The long line in open fields: distance and distraction
Platinum and VIP: off the line in stores, parks and on sidewalks
VIP: the Mini-Educator layer for reliability at real distance
Your own lot: the go-home session proves it where the deer live
How it works from Pinehurst
A short hop down 249 past Tomball, or the pickup to your gate.
The training home in Cypress is about 20 to 30 minutes from Pinehurst, down 249 past Tomball and then over to 290 near Fry Road, outside rush hour. Most families drop off, and the go-home session for drop-off families happens at the training home on the final day: you and our trainer walk your dog, run place and the recall, and leave with a plan for the first week.
The $250 pickup and return is available too, and it includes the first lesson at your home, which on a wooded lot means we run the recall on your own ground and set the boundary at your own driveway. VIP includes the transport and the in-home handover. During the stay the dog lives in our trainer's house with a handful of other dogs, and you see its progress in photo and video updates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Where we train near you
Burroughs Park, Kleb Woods and the 249 stores.
Burroughs Park in Tomball is a Harris County Precinct 4 park with open lawns, a lake loop and enough weekend traffic to test a heel. Kleb Woods Nature Preserve is the quieter forest trail with pine shade and wildlife smells, which makes it excellent for a leashed recall and for a dog that needs to learn that deer scent is not a release. The operators' sites carry the current rules for both, including leash requirements.
The stores along 249 are the neutrality classroom: carts, automatic doors and people who want to pet your dog. Platinum and VIP field trips during the stay use the public places nearest the training home, and the in-home lessons afterward use the trails and stores you actually visit. Summer moves outdoor work to early morning and evening, and in the pines the mosquitoes make heartworm prevention a year-round matter, not a summer one.
- Heel on the Burroughs Park loop past strollers and bikes
- Leashed recall on the Kleb Woods trail with deer scent everywhere
- Sit and down in a 249 store aisle
- Heartworm prevention every month of the year
Lessons on your lot
In-home lessons in Pinehurst cost $220 and start with the recall.
A private lesson at your Pinehurst home is $220 a session, or $160 if you bring the dog to Cypress. Lessons suit one clear problem, and out here the problem is usually the recall or a dog that will not settle on the porch while deer walk the yard. We work on your own lot because a recall that works in a park and fails at your tree line is not finished.
The Puppy Development Bundle covers puppies under four months: four private sessions of 45 to 60 minutes, $750 at your home or $550 in Cypress. For a Pinehurst puppy the priorities are recall before independence sets in, a crate the puppy likes, potty habits that survive a big yard, and socialization to people and dogs before the woods become more interesting than you.

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Can you make my dog reliable off leash on our property?
The VIP program is built for that: six weeks, service-dog-level obedience, a Mini-Educator e-collar included, and unlimited in-home lessons afterward. Platinum builds a strong recall on the long line and in public. What no program does is make a dog safe to ignore beside a road, so keep your eyes on it near the county roads.
How far is Pinehurst from Cypress?
About 20 to 30 minutes outside rush hour, down 249 past Tomball and across to 290 near Fry Road. That is close enough that most Pinehurst families drop off and return for the go-home session, and far enough that the $250 pickup is worth it when the week is busy.
Is Kleb Woods a good place to practice?
Yes, on leash. The preserve is a Harris County site with a shaded trail and a lot of wildlife scent, which is exactly the distraction a recall needs to beat. Check the county's parks site for the current rules before you go, and bring water; the shade helps but the humidity does not.
What about the deer in our yard at night?
A dog that has learned neutrality treats a deer like any other distraction: it looks, checks in with you, and comes when called. That takes the staged recall work in the stay and a few weeks of practice on your lot. Until then, the dog goes out on a long line at dusk, not loose.
Do you offer puppy training in Pinehurst?
Yes. The Puppy Development Bundle is four sessions of 45 to 60 minutes for puppies under four months, $750 at your home or $550 in Cypress. On a wooded lot the first job is recall, before the puppy learns that the woods answer faster than you do, and the second is a crate it likes.
