Board and train, Gleannloch Farms

Board and train in Gleannloch Farms: twenty minutes up 249

Gleannloch Farms dogs walk greenbelts shared with golf carts, kids on bikes and every other Lab and doodle in the neighborhood, then come home to a lake lot and a village center with patios. The stay builds a dog that can do all of that on a loose leash.

The stay, from Gleannloch Farms

Out 2920 in the morning, home by the second cup of coffee.

The drive from Gleannloch Farms to the training home is about 20 minutes via 2920 or down Champion Forest, so the stay starts with a morning drop-off rather than a pickup. Bring the dog's food, its vaccination records and any medication; our trainer takes a few minutes to hear what the dog does at home and then the dog goes in. The first day is a walk, the crate and meals on place, and nothing else, because a settled dog learns faster on day two.

Training then happens daily, in the house, on the streets around it, in the hardware and pet stores on 290 and at the lake. Photos and clips land on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The go-home session is at the training home, and families who add the $250 transport or book VIP get it on their own greenbelt instead, with the golf carts and the neighbors' dogs as the test.

What a Gleannloch Farms dog practices

Golf carts, bikes, lake ducks and the patio at the village center.

The greenbelt is the exam. A Gleannloch Farms dog has to pass a golf cart without lunging, a kid on a bike without chasing, another doodle without dragging you over to say hello, and a lake full of ducks without going in. Those are four separate pieces of neutrality, and the stay builds them one at a time, starting on quiet streets near the training home and finishing in busy public places during a Platinum stay's field trips.

Then there is the settle. The village center's patios and the shops are where a family wants to bring the dog, and a down-stay under a table is taught in the store aisles first. Meyer Park and Pundt Park in Spring, both Harris County Precinct 4 parks, are the follow-up lesson venues once the dog is home; the precinct's page lists the rules. And July 4 in a neighborhood with lakes and open sky is loud, so crate calm gets practiced before the holiday, not during it.

Which program

Gold for most Labs, Platinum for the reactive doodle, VIP for the lakeside off leash.

Gold, two weeks at $2,500, is the right stay for a friendly Gleannloch Farms Lab or doodle that pulls, jumps and cannot settle: it installs sit, place, the structured walk, door manners and impulse control, and it comes with a go-home session and one more lesson. Platinum, three weeks at $3,750, is for the dog that barks and lunges at other dogs on the greenbelt, guards the front door or falls apart in storms, because it adds behavior modification, public field trips and unlimited private lessons.

VIP at $10,000 is six weeks and produces a dog reliable off leash, with the Mini-Educator included and introduced correctly, transport and an in-home handover included, and unlimited in-home lessons. For a family that wants the dog off leash on the lake paths, it is the program; for most Gleannloch Farms dogs it is more than they need, and our team says so. Silver at $1,500 is a one-week refresher for graduates.

  • Gold: the friendly, pulling Lab or doodle
  • Platinum: greenbelt reactivity, door guarding, storm fear
  • VIP: off leash on the lake paths, e-collar included

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this.

How far is Gleannloch Farms from the training home?

About 20 minutes outside rush hour, via 2920 to 290 or down Champion Forest. Most families drive it for drop-off and again for the go-home session at the training home in Cypress, and use the $250 transport only if they want the handover on their own greenbelt.

My doodle loses its mind at golf carts. Gold or Platinum?

If the reaction is excitement and pulling, Gold builds the structured walk and the impulse control to pass a cart calmly. If it is barking, lunging and not recovering, that is reactivity and it needs Platinum: three weeks, behavior modification, proofing in public and unlimited lessons afterward to keep it.

Can the follow-up lessons be at Meyer Park?

Yes. Meyer Park and Pundt Park are both close to Gleannloch Farms and both are Harris County Precinct 4 parks with trails that suit leash work; the precinct's page has the current rules. Platinum's unlimited lessons and Gold's included lesson can be scheduled there or on your own greenbelt.

What does the go-home session cover?

The handling: how to hold the leash, how to use place, how to manage the door and the window, and how to keep the neutrality the dog learned. For Gleannloch Farms families it is at the training home unless you add transport or book VIP, in which case it is on your street.

Is a summer stay a bad idea because of the heat?

No. From May through September the outdoor sessions run early and late, the pavement gets tested before every walk, and the store aisles and the house carry the afternoons. A dog that graduates in August has trained through the worst of the heat and will find the fall walks easy.
