Board and train, Galleria

Board and train in the Galleria area: elevator dogs and patio dogs from Uptown

The Galleria area is high-rises, mid-rises and townhomes, dog runs on parking garages, valet drives and crowds on every sidewalk. Its dogs live around elevators and strangers, and the manners that matter are a calm elevator ride, a loose leash on Post Oak and a settle at a patio table.

The stay, from Uptown

Hand the dog to us in the lobby, or drive out 290: two ways a Galleria stay begins.

A Galleria family has two easy starts. Drive out 610 to 290, about 35 to 40 minutes outside rush hour, and drop off at the training home with the food, medications and records. Or add the $250 transport: our trainer meets you in your lobby or at your townhome, runs the first lesson there, in the elevator and on the sidewalk where the problems actually happen, and drives the dog to Cypress. Either way the dog spends its first day settling into a house, not a facility.

From day two the program runs daily in the training home and on the sidewalks, stores and lake near it, with photos and video every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, which is a good thing to open between meetings. The stay ends with the go-home session: at the training home if you dropped off, or in your building if you added transport or booked VIP, where the lobby, the elevator, the garage dog run and the block are the real classroom.

What a Galleria dog practices

A calm elevator ride, a loose leash on Post Oak and a settle at the patio.

The high-rise dog's day is a series of thresholds: the apartment door, the elevator, the lobby, the valet drive, the sidewalk. It pulls at each one because each one leads somewhere exciting. The stay teaches a wait at every threshold, a structured walk that holds past strangers, carts and other dogs, and a settle on place that becomes a settle under a patio table. Neutrality is built on the Cypress sidewalks and in store aisles first, then in busier places as the dog earns them.

For the go-home session and the lessons afterwards, the Galleria area has the right classrooms: the Post Oak and Uptown Park sidewalks for crowds, the Highland Village stores for aisles and doors, Memorial Park and the Buffalo Bayou trails for runners, cyclists and dogs at every distance. Both parks have leash rules; check Houston Parks and Recreation and the Buffalo Bayou Partnership for the current versions before you practice there.

Which program Galleria families choose

Platinum for most high-rise dogs, because the elevator is a reactivity test.

Gold at $2,500 fits the friendly townhome dog with no manners: two weeks of sit and stay, place, the loose leash, door boundaries, jumping and impulse control, with a go-home session, one added lesson and lifelong support. Platinum at $3,750 is the fit for most high-rise dogs, because an elevator that opens on a stranger and a dog twice a day is a reactivity test, and the three weeks of behavior modification, public field trips and unlimited private lessons afterwards are what it takes to pass it.

VIP at $10,000 gives six weeks, off-leash reliability for the family that travels with the dog, the Mini-Educator included, transport and the handover in your building with unlimited in-home lessons. It is the choice for a household that wants the dog finished rather than improved. Silver at $1,500 is a one-week refresher for a graduate.

  • Platinum for elevator reactivity and patio anxiety
  • VIP for the finished, travel-everywhere dog

Prices and the deposit

The published prices, a $250 deposit, and a transport that fits a lobby.

Gold is $2,500, Platinum $3,750 and VIP $10,000, the same on Post Oak as anywhere else. Your dates are held by the $250 reservation deposit, which is applied to the balance. Transport is $250 for pickup and return with the first lesson at your home, included in VIP; from the Galleria area it is less about distance and more about where the handover happens, because a high-rise dog's manners have to be taught in the elevator and the lobby, and that is where our trainer does it.

Private lessons afterwards are $160 at the training home or $220 at your building; Platinum and VIP include them without limit, and most high-rise households use the at-home version. Boarding with training refreshers is available to graduates who travel. Hours are 6am to 9pm daily, and the pricing page has every number in one place.

Galleria specifics

A garage dog run in August, a valet drive full of cars and a patio that welcomes dogs.

The rooftop or garage dog run is concrete, and in August it fails the pavement test by mid-morning, so the summer routine is early and late outdoors with the settle indoors at midday; from May to September that is how the stay is scheduled too. The valet drive is a daily test of the wait, with cars, doors and strangers, and it is practiced on the go-home visit. Patios on Westheimer and around Highland Village welcome dogs, which makes the settle under the table the most-used skill a Galleria dog has. Fireworks on July 4 carry through a high-rise, so place with noise is rehearsed before the dog goes home.

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this.

How far is the Galleria area from the training home?

About 35 to 40 minutes outside rush hour, out 610 to 290 and on to Cypress near Fry Road. Rush hour on 610 can double it, which is one reason high-rise families add the $250 transport and let our trainer handle the drive.

Can the go-home session happen in my building?

Yes, with the $250 transport or as part of VIP. Our trainer runs it in your apartment, the elevator, the lobby, the garage dog run and on the block, because those are where a high-rise dog's manners have to hold. Drop-off families take it at the training home instead.

Is board and train right for an elevator-reactive dog?

It is the right format, and Platinum at $3,750 is the right program. Reactivity needs three weeks of behavior modification and gradual public exposure, and then the unlimited private lessons afterwards let our trainers ride your elevator with you until the dog is neutral to whoever steps in.

Does my building's pet policy change anything?

Only the logistics. Tell our team what the building requires for visiting trainers and leashes in common areas, and we will plan the pickup and the go-home session around it. We do not quote building rules; your management office has the current version.

What will my dog actually do all day in Cypress?

Live in a house with a limited number of dogs, sleep in a crate, eat on place, train through the day in the home and on the sidewalks and in the stores around it, and rest between sessions. It is a routine, not a run, and that routine is what transfers back to an apartment.
