Senior owners, calm dogs
Board and train for senior owners in Houston: a dog that is easy to live with
The dog does not need to be perfect. He needs to stop yanking a shoulder on the morning walk, stop bolting through the front door and stop pacing all evening. That is a smaller, clearer job than most programs are sold for, and it is the job this page is about.

Who this is for
Who this stay is for: the retiree, the widow with a big dog, the reluctant grandparents.
The retired couple in Fairfield or Towne Lake with a young Lab. They walk twice a day and would like to enjoy it, but the dog pulls hard enough that one of them has stopped going. The dog is friendly, healthy and untrained, and the fix is leash pressure he understands plus a walk pattern the owners can hold at their own pace.
The owner living alone with a dog who is too strong. A widow in Meyerland with her late husband's shepherd, or a man in his seventies with a seventy-pound doodle, is managing the dog by avoidance: no walks past other dogs, no guests, no open front door. Our trainers give that dog rules he keeps for whoever holds the leash.
The grandparents with a grandchild's puppy or a rescue the family talked them into. Nobody planned for an adolescent dog in a quiet house. The stay gives the dog place, crate and door manners, and the transport option means nobody drives to Cypress twice; the go-home session happens in your living room, with your furniture and your routine.
- A pulling dog and a shoulder, hip or balance that cannot absorb it
- A dog who bolts through doors or knocks people over
- Owners who want the handover at home rather than a drive to Cypress

Day by day
How the stay is paced when the person coming to the go-home session is seventy.
Most senior families choose the $250 transportation, so the stay starts with our team at your door, collecting the dog and seeing the house. That visit tells our trainers what the dog will have to do at home: which door, which hallway, what the walk looks like on your street. Then he comes to the training home in Cypress and lives in the house, not a kennel.
Loose leash walking is trained to a standard that suits the handler. A dog can learn to walk for a fast twenty-five-year-old or a steady seventy-five-year-old, and the leash pressure, the pace and the release are taught with your walk in mind. Updates arrive Monday, Wednesday and Friday as short videos that play on a phone without anyone's help.
Arrival: transport collects the dog at your home, and our trainers note the doors, stairs and walking route.
Days 1 to 3: crate, routine and marker words, plus slow walks on the quiet streets around the training home.
Days 4 to 7: sit/stay, place/stay and door boundaries, taught so the dog waits without being physically held back.
Week two: the walk is proofed past fence dogs and joggers at a walking pace, and place is held through the evenings.
Week three, Platinum only: field trips to stores and parks, the structured heel, and behavior work if the dog reacts to other dogs.
Return: the dog comes home by transport, and the first lesson happens in your living room, at your speed.
Price and inclusions
What it costs: $2,500 for Gold, $3,750 for Platinum, and why transport is worth adding.
The Gold Board & Train is $2,500 for two weeks and includes the go-home session, one additional lesson and lifelong support. The Platinum Board & Train is $3,750 for three weeks and adds down/stay, the structured heel, behavior modification, public field trips and unlimited private lessons. For a strong but friendly dog, Gold is usually enough. If the dog lunges or growls, Platinum is the honest choice.
Transportation is $250 door-to-door, covers pick-up and return together, and includes the first lesson in your home; for senior owners it is the line item our team recommends most. The reservation deposit is $250, paid through the Reserve Your Spot link once the free consultation confirms the program, and it is applied toward the total. Food, updates and the handover cost nothing extra.

Houston specifics
Heat, humidity and a long drive: the Houston details that shape a senior owner's stay.
The drive to Cypress is the first thing to plan. From Meyerland, the Museum District or Clear Lake it is about 40 minutes to an hour outside rush hour, which is why transport makes sense for most senior households; from Katy or Tomball it is closer to 25 to 35 minutes. With transport, the go-home session is at your home.
From May to September the walks your dog learns happen early and late, and the go-home lesson is scheduled for the cool part of the day so nobody stands on hot pavement. A dog who pulls in ninety-degree humidity is dangerous to an older handler on a Heights sidewalk or the Brays Bayou greenway, and that is the walk we train for. Heartworm prevention should be current at drop-off.
- Summer walks early and late; the go-home lesson is booked for the cool hours
- Hurricane season, June 1 to November 30, gets a written plan for every dog in the house
- Fireworks on July 4 and New Year's Eve are easier with a dog who knows the crate
Which program fits
Gold for the strong friendly dog, Platinum for the one who reacts, and when Silver is enough.
Silver at $1,500 is enough when the dog already has some manners and the only problem is the leash. A one-week foundation gives an older owner a walk they can hold and a door that stays closed, and our team will recommend it over a longer stay when that is the whole job. Gold at $2,500 is right when the dog also jumps or will not settle in the evening.
Platinum at $3,750 is the program for a dog who lunges at other dogs on the walk or growls at visitors, because a senior owner cannot manage a reactive dog by strength and should not have to. The six-week VIP at $10,000 is rarely the fit here; its off-leash reliability and included e-collar serve a different goal, and our team says so on the phone.
- Silver, $1,500: the leash only
- Gold, $2,500: the leash, the door and the evening
- Platinum, $3,750: reactivity, guests and public places
The programs
The two stays most senior owners choose, and the shorter one.
Gold covers the strong friendly dog. Platinum covers the one who reacts. Silver is the refresher week.
Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Do I have to drive to Cypress for the go-home session?
No. The $250 door-to-door transportation collects your dog at the start, returns him at the end and includes the first lesson in your home, so the handover happens in your own living room and on your own street. Families who prefer to drop off can, and the session then happens at the training home.
Will the training hold if I cannot walk far or fast?
Yes. Loose leash walking is about the dog's position and the pressure on the line, not the handler's speed, and our trainers proof it at a slow pace as well as a brisk one. The go-home lesson covers how to hold the leash and what to do when a squirrel appears.
My dog is friendly but pulls me over. Which program?
Usually Gold at $2,500. Pulling, jumping and door bolting are habits with a payoff, and two weeks of daily structure replaces the payoff with a better one. If the pulling is toward other dogs and comes with barking or lunging, the three-week Platinum is the safer answer.
Can a family member handle the drop-off and lessons for me?
Yes, and it helps when the person who walks the dog most attends the go-home session. Our trainers hand the leash to whoever will use it. If an adult child or a neighbor walks the dog on weekdays, tell our team on the free consultation so the handover includes them.
Is there help afterward if the dog slips back?
Gold includes one additional lesson and lifelong support by phone; Platinum includes unlimited private lessons and lifetime support. Boarding with training refreshers is available to returning clients, which suits travel or a hospital stay. Call our team first; the fix is usually one lesson.
