Board and train for high-energy dogs in Houston: building an off switch
These dogs are not bad dogs. They are Vizslas, pointers, heelers, huskies, young Labs and doodles bred to work all day and living in a Houston subdivision instead. More exercise is not the answer; a fitter dog just needs more. They need to learn that stillness is a behavior, and that it pays.

Who this is for
Who a high-energy stay is for: the sporting dog, the herder, the adolescent who never stops.
The sporting breed in a family home. A German shorthaired pointer or Vizsla in Towne Lake gets two walks and a fetch session a day and is still spinning at 9pm. The family has tried daycare, a treadmill and a second dog. The dog is not under-exercised; he has never been taught to be off duty. Place and impulse control are the missing pieces.
The herding dog with no job. Australian shepherds, heelers and border collies in the suburbs herd kids, chase cars along the fence and nip at bikes on the Terry Hershey trail. A stay gives that brain something to do, a structured heel and a down/stay, and then teaches the dog that the moving thing is not his problem. The field trips test that lesson.
The adolescent Lab or doodle who is simply a lot. Twelve months old, seventy pounds, everything is a game. This dog does not always need Platinum; if there is no reactivity, a Gold stay at $2,500 with place, impulse control and a follow-up lesson often does the job. Our team decides on the free consultation, not on the size of the dog.

Day by day
How the off switch is built over three weeks, and why it is not built by tiring the dog out.
The stay is a rhythm of short work and long calm. A high-energy dog at the training home trains in several short sessions a day and spends the hours between on a place bed or in a crate, learning to rest while the house moves around him. Fetch until the dog drops teaches him to be an athlete; place through a family dinner teaches him to be a dog you can live with.
Impulse control is drilled around everything the dog wants: the food bowl, the door, the thrown ball, the leash coming off the hook. Each one becomes a wait, a release and a reward, until the dog offers the wait without being told. The Monday, Wednesday and Friday videos usually show that shift somewhere in the second week, and it is the one families comment on most.
Days 1 to 3: crate, routine, place for seconds at a time, and walks that ask for attention.
Days 4 to 7: sit/stay, down/stay and place/stay build duration, from thirty seconds to a full meal.
Days 8 to 10: impulse control drills at the bowl, the door and the thrown ball.
Days 11 to 14: the structured heel on the neighborhood streets, then place held through the evenings.
Days 15 to 20: field trips to the stores along 290, then the park and the lake, with a down/stay held while dogs and kids pass.
Day 21: the comprehensive handover and the schedule for your unlimited private lessons.
Price and inclusions
Platinum is $3,750 for three weeks, and the unlimited lessons afterward are what keep the off switch working.
The Platinum Board & Train is $3,750 for three weeks and includes everything in Gold plus down/stay, the structured heel, behavior modification, field trips and public exposure, a comprehensive handover, unlimited private lessons and lifetime support. For a high-energy dog the unlimited lessons matter, because an off switch decays when nobody at home asks for it, and a lesson resets it. Gold at $2,500 covers place, impulse control and one follow-up lesson.
A $250 reservation deposit through Reserve Your Spot holds your dates and is applied to the balance. Door-to-door transport is $250 and includes the first lesson at your home. The Agility Board & Train, two weeks for $2,500, is a separate option for a high-energy dog who already has basic obedience and needs an outlet: the equipment gives the drive somewhere to go.
- $3,750 all in for Platinum, including field trips and unlimited lessons
- $250 deposit holds the dates and comes off the total
- Agility at $2,500 for a dog who already has the basics

Houston specifics
A Houston dog cannot be run into calm for five months of the year, which is why the off switch matters.
From May to September a working-bred dog cannot be exercised hard in the middle of the day here. Pavement fails the hand test by mid-morning, humidity makes heat stress fast, and the AVMA's warning signs show up in a pointer long before he chooses to stop. The stay trains the dog to rest indoors through the hot hours and to work at dawn and after dinner.
The field trips use the places a high-energy Houston dog has to cope with: the aisles of the stores along 290, the trails at Towne Lake, the edge of the lake. Hurricane season, June 1 to November 30, is part of the plan too, because a dog who cannot settle in a crate during a storm evacuation is a real problem in this county. Ready Harris is the reference for the family kit.
- Summer training before 8am and after 7pm, the middle of the day on place
- Katy and Tomball to Cypress about 25 to 35 minutes; central Houston 30 to 45
- Fireworks twice a year: a dog with a real crate routine copes
Which program fits
Which program fits a high-energy dog, and when two weeks is honestly enough.
Platinum at $3,750 is the default when the energy comes with reactivity, or a dog who cannot settle at all. Gold at $2,500 is enough for a young dog whose only problem is that nobody has taught him to wait, and our team will say so. The Silver week at $1,500 is rarely the fit here; a foundation week does not build duration.
Agility and Free-Style, both $2,500, are the second stays for a dog who already has obedience and needs an outlet: agility for the athlete, tricks and engagement for the thinker. The six-week VIP at $10,000 fits the high-energy dog whose family wants him off leash on acreage or trails, with the e-collar included. A puppy under four months starts with the Puppy Development Bundle instead.
- Gold, $2,500: untrained, not reactive, under two
- Platinum, $3,750: cannot settle, reacts to movement or dogs
- Agility or Free-Style, $2,500: has obedience, needs a job
The programs
Platinum, Gold, and the Agility stay for the dog who needs a job.
Platinum builds the off switch. Gold does it for the simply untrained. Agility gives a trained athlete an outlet.
Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Can training really calm down a high-energy dog?
Yes, if calm is taught as a behavior rather than expected as a mood. A high-energy dog will not become a low-energy dog. He can learn that lying on a bed through dinner earns more than pacing, and that a wait at the door gets it opened. That is the off switch.
Do you exercise the dogs, or just train them?
Both, in a rhythm. Structured walks and field trips give a working breed real output, and every session is followed by place or crate time that teaches him to come down. What we do not do is run a dog to exhaustion, because exhaustion is not learning.
Is Agility board and train a good choice for my dog?
If he already has basic obedience and the problem is boredom, yes: two weeks at $2,500 on weave poles, jumps, an A-frame, tunnels and a seesaw gives the drive a direction. If he cannot hold a sit or walk on a loose leash, Gold or Platinum comes first and Agility can be the second stay.
How much is board and train for a high-energy dog in Houston?
Platinum is $3,750 for three weeks, Gold and Agility are $2,500 for two, and VIP is $10,000 for six weeks with off-leash work. The $250 reservation deposit is applied to whichever program you choose, and transportation is an optional $250 that includes the first lesson at your home.
Will the off switch survive our schedule once he is home?
It survives if someone asks for it daily: place through one meal, a wait at the door, a structured walk instead of a drag. The go-home session sets that routine, and the unlimited Platinum lessons repair it when life gets in the way.
