Is the VIP program worth it?

VIP is our most complete program and our most expensive one, and families deserve a straight answer before they spend that much. Here is who gets their money's worth, who does not, and how to tell which family you are.

When it pays

VIP earns its price when the dog's daily life happens beyond the end of a leash.

Think of the families who need a dog that works loose. Acreage in Magnolia, Waller or Hockley, where the dog moves with the family between the barn, the pond and the road. A dock on Lake Conroe, where a dog that ignores one recall ends up in the channel. A household where a wheelchair, a walker or a toddler's stroller makes holding a leash hard. For them, a recall that works the first time near deer, water and livestock is a safety system, and six weeks is what building it properly takes.

VIP also fits a dog with a serious bite history, where our team wants six weeks for the dog to change its defaults and wants the follow-up lessons in the rooms where the trouble happened. In those cases the extra weeks are not a luxury. They are the difference between a dog that behaves while our trainer is present and a dog whose new habits hold when the family is alone with it.

  • Acreage where the dog works loose
  • Water, docks and wildlife nearby
  • A handler for whom a leash is hard
  • A serious history that needs six weeks and in-home follow-up

When it does not

It is money poorly spent on a dog whose walks, patios and vet visits all happen on a leash.

A dog in a Heights townhome or a Katy cul-de-sac spends its public life on a leash, because most streets, trails and park paths around Houston expect one. For that dog, the off-leash standard is a skill it will rarely use. Platinum builds the structured heel, the down-stay, calm past other dogs and the field-trip exposure that make those walks pleasant, and the unlimited lessons afterward cover the rough patches.

VIP is also the wrong buy for a family that will not use the e-collar every day after the handover, because the reliability lives in the handler's consistency. And a young puppy is not ready; the attention span for off-leash work arrives with adulthood. We would rather lose a sale than place a dog in a program it cannot use.

  • Leashed walks and patios: Platinum covers it
  • A family unwilling to use the e-collar daily
  • Puppies not yet ready for off-leash work

Side by side

The extra money buys twice the time, the tool, the trip home and a handover in your house.

The table sets the two programs next to each other, using only what each one includes. The difference is not a fancier version of the same thing; it is a higher standard, the equipment to hold it at a distance, and our trainers coming to you instead of you coming to Cypress.

Read the bottom rows before the top ones. The lesson and handover lines are where the two programs differ most over the years, because a VIP family never drives to a lesson again, while a Platinum family comes to the training home in Cypress for theirs. For a family ten minutes away in Jersey Village that difference is small; for a family near Lake Conroe it is a long drive saved every time something needs a tune-up.

Deciding

Answer five questions honestly and the choice usually makes itself.

Our team walks callers through these on the free consultation call. The first two decide most cases; the last three settle the close ones. Answer them for the dog you have today, not the dog you hope to have after training, because the program has to fit the life the dog will actually lead once it comes home.

If most of your answers point to a leash, a sidewalk and a vet lobby, the three-week program is the right one, and the money you keep can go toward lessons for the rest of the family. If your answers point to open land, water and a handler who cannot hold a leash well, six weeks is the honest recommendation.

1

Where will the dog be off leash legally and regularly, and how often?

2

What happens if the recall fails once in that place: an annoyance or a danger?

3

Will someone in the house use the e-collar every day for the life of the dog?

4

Is there a bite history or escalating aggression our team should weigh?

5

Does in-home follow-up save you a long drive, from The Woodlands or Katy for example?

At Best Dog University

We steer most callers to Platinum and place VIP dogs on purpose, and we explain the reasoning either way.

Families often call asking for VIP because it is the top tier, and most of them leave the call booking Platinum at $3,750. That is the honest recommendation for a family dog that needs manners, calm and a reliable heel. The ones we do place in VIP have a reason we can name: land, water, a handler's needs or a history that calls for more time. For a family in The Woodlands, 35 to 45 minutes from Cypress outside rush hour, the in-home lessons alone remove a lot of driving over the years.

A six-week stay that starts in June runs through the hottest weeks, so off-leash proofing happens at dawn, after dark and in air-conditioned store aisles. Photo and video updates arrive every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, so you can watch the standard being built.

Asked and answered

Questions people ask about this.

Is VIP worth it for a reactive dog?

Usually Platinum is the right first step, because it includes behavior modification for reactivity and aggression over three weeks. VIP makes sense when there is a bite history, when aggression has escalated, or when the family also needs off-leash reliability. Our team decides that with you on the call, based on the dog's history.

Why is VIP so much more than Platinum?

It is twice as long, trains to a higher standard, includes the Mini-Educator e-collar and its conditioning, includes transport home and an in-home handover, and turns every follow-up lesson into an in-home lesson. Those are real costs in time and travel, not a premium for the name.

Is the included transport worth much if I live in Cypress?

Less than it is to a family in Pearland or Montgomery, where the drive runs close to an hour. For a Cypress family the in-home handover and in-home lessons still matter, because the problems live at your door and on your street. Distance alone should not decide the program.

Can a small dog do VIP?

Yes, if the temperament is stable and the family needs off-leash reliability. Size does not change the standard; a shih tzu can learn front and center positioning and a first-time recall as well as a shepherd. The question is whether the family's life calls for it, not the dog's weight.

What does lifetime support mean in VIP?

Our team stays available for the life of the dog, directly, and in-home lessons are unlimited. When a move, a new baby or a slipping recall changes things, you call and our trainer comes to the house to fix it with you there.
