Dog aggression
Dog-to-dog aggression training in Houston
The dog that has fought at the dog park, bitten the neighbor's dog through the fence or attacked the family's other dog is the one families are most afraid to call about, and one of the most common cases in the training home. It is serious, it is workable, and it is never fixed by more exposure without a plan.

What it is, and is not
Intent to harm, versus noise.
A dog-aggressive dog goes quiet and stiff, stares, and closes the distance with purpose; if it reaches the other dog there is contact, often a grab and hold. A reactive dog barks, lunges and carries on at the end of the leash, and if it reached the other dog would mostly sniff, bounce or bluff. The two overlap and a reactive dog can become an aggressive one with enough rehearsal, but they are worked differently, and telling them apart is the first thing our team does in an consultation.
Dog aggression also splits by context: on leash only, at the fence, at the park, toward one dog in the house, toward all dogs, toward a certain type of dog. Each has a different plan.
- Quiet, stiff, staring, closing the distance: intent
- Barking and lunging with no follow-through: reactivity
- Leash, fence, park, house or all dogs: different plans
- An in-person consultation tells them apart
Why it happens here
Dog parks, fence lines and two dogs in one house.
Houston's busy off-leash parks are where a lot of dog aggression is made: an adolescent flattened or bullied at Millie Bush or Johnny Steele learns to strike first. Master-planned fence lines rehearse fence fighting all day with the neighbor's dog. Two dogs in one house fight over a doorway, a person or a couch when neither has structure. And some working and guardian breeds, common on Houston acreage, carry a same-sex intolerance that appears at maturity and is managed rather than removed.
Under most of it is a dog with no neutrality: it has never learned that another dog can exist at ten feet without something happening.
- A bad experience at a busy park
- Fence fighting rehearsed daily
- Two dogs in one house with no rules
- Breed tendencies that appear at maturity
How we work it
Structure, then neutrality with calm dogs, then the handler in charge of every meeting.
The first days are structure with no other dogs in the picture: place, a structured heel, impulse control, a crate. Then neutrality: a calm, steady dog from the training home at a distance the aggressive dog can hold, walking parallel, closer over days, rewarded for looking at the handler instead of the dog. Then more dogs, on Cypress sidewalks and store aisles, at distances that shrink as the dog earns it. The aggressive dog never gets a free greeting and never gets to rehearse the charge; the handler decides every meeting, and the equipment is chosen for the dog so that decision holds.
The handover teaches you the reading, the equipment and the management, because a dog-aggressive dog is managed for life even after it is far better: no dog parks, no on-leash greetings with strangers, structure at home. Unlimited lessons after Platinum keep it honest in your neighborhood.

Which program
Platinum after an consultation, VIP for off-leash, and lessons only for the mild case.
A dog that has made contact with another dog, or that goes quiet and stiff at the sight of one, is a Platinum case at $3,750: three weeks of daily structure and controlled exposure in the training home, with unlimited lessons afterwards. VIP at $10,000 is for the dog that also needs off-leash reliability on acreage or a trail, with the Mini-Educator introduced properly and the in-home handover included. In-home lessons at $220 suit only the mild case, the dog that has never made contact and reacts on leash but settles fast, and even then the consultation comes first. A dog with a bite history to other dogs is assessed in person before any program is booked.
| Case | Program | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Leash noise, no contact ever, settles fast | In-home lessons after an consultation | $220 per session |
| Has made contact, stiff and silent, fence fighting | Platinum, 3 weeks | $3,750 |
| The same dog that must be reliable off leash | VIP, 6 weeks | $10,000 |
Houston specifics
No dog parks, careful fences and the two-dog house.
A dog-aggressive dog in Houston does not go to Millie Bush, Johnny Steele or any fenced park, ever, and it walks the trails at the quiet hours on the equipment it was trained on. Fence fighting in a master-planned section is managed with visual barriers and no free yard time when the neighbor's dog is out, while the neutrality work happens elsewhere. Two dogs that fight in one house are separated fully until each has structure, and the reintroduction is a parallel walk on the street, not a reunion in the hallway; our multi-dog household page covers that case. Texas holds owners responsible for what their dogs do to other dogs, which is one more reason the management is permanent.

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Is my dog aggressive or reactive?
A reactive dog barks and lunges and would mostly bluff if it reached the other dog. An aggressive dog goes quiet and stiff, closes the distance with purpose and makes contact. They overlap, and telling them apart is what our in-person consultation does before a plan is set.
Can dog-to-dog aggression be cured?
It can be reduced dramatically and managed reliably in most dogs: a dog that walks past other dogs calmly, lives peacefully with the dog at home and never gets a free greeting with a stranger. It is managed for life, and our team is honest about that from the first call.
My two dogs fight each other. Can you help?
Yes. They are separated fully until each has its own structure, then reintroduced on parallel walks and with rules for doorways, food and people. It is Platinum work, often for both dogs, and the handover sets the household rules. Blood drawn means an consultation first.
Should I muzzle my dog?
A muzzle taught calmly, with food, so the dog wears it happily, is a sensible management tool for a dog with a history of contact, on walks and at the vet. It is not a substitute for the training; it is what makes the training safe to do.
Do you use e-collars for dog aggression?
Our trainers choose equipment for the dog in front of them, and the Mini-Educator is part of VIP for off-leash reliability, introduced at low levels only after the dog understands the commands. No tool is used to punish a dog for being aggressive; the work is structure and controlled exposure.
