Board and train in Houston: your dog lives and learns in a trainer's home
Houston has plenty of places that will board your dog and run drills in a building. This is different. Your dog lives in the training home on the northwest side, learns place while dinner is cooked, waits at real doors, rides to real stores, and comes back to your house already knowing the rules. One trainer, a limited number of dogs, and a program built around yours.

A home, not a facility
Board and train works here because the dog trains where life happens.
Dogs learn where they are. A dog who spends three weeks in a kennel run gets very good at kennel behavior and then walks into your kitchen, sees the couch and the doorbell and the kids, and concludes the old rules apply. That is the failure mode of most board and train programs, and it is the reason Best Dog University runs out of a home in Cypress instead of a warehouse.
In our trainer's home your dog practices the exact skills a Houston family needs: settling on place while people move around, waiting at the front door when a delivery arrives, loading calmly into a truck, ignoring another dog through the living room window. The environment is the same one your dog is going back to, so the transfer is built in rather than hoped for.
Only a limited number of dogs live in the home at once, and our team trains every one of them personally from drop-off to the go-home session. That is how a program stays customized to your dog instead of running on a schedule that was written for a hundred others.
- Lives in the house, not a run
- Trained personally by our team, start to finish
- Real doors, real guests, real distractions
- Limited dogs at a time
Four lengths
One week to six: choose by the problem, not the price.
The length of a board and train is decided by how much has to change. A young dog who pulls and jumps needs a foundation and two weeks of repetition. A dog who lunges at other dogs on the sidewalk needs that foundation plus weeks of controlled exposure to the real trigger. An owner who wants a finished, off-leash reliable dog needs six.
Our team makes that call on the free phone consultation, and they will say so when the shorter, cheaper program is the right one. The table below is what they are choosing between.
| Program | Length | Investment | Built for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silver Foundation | 1 week | $1,500 | A short introduction to structure, loose leash walking and door boundaries |
| Gold Board & Train | 2 weeks | $2,500 | Sit/stay, place/stay, jumping, pulling and impulse control for a dog who needs a foundation |
| Platinum Board & Train | 3 weeks | $3,750 | Structured heel, field trips, behavior modification for reactivity and aggression, unlimited lessons after |
| VIP Service-Dog-Level | 6 weeks | $10,000 | Complete off-leash reliability, Mini-Educator e-collar included, transport home and an in-home handover |
Day by day
A week in the house looks like structure, repetition and rest.
Houston summers shape the schedule. From May to September the outdoor sessions happen early and late, when pavement is cool enough to hold a hand on for seven seconds, and the middle of the day moves indoors to store aisles and the house itself. Every day is built from the same parts, in this order.
Morning structured walk, then breakfast earned with a calm sit and a release.
A short obedience session: the command being built that week, in the yard and then in the house with doors opening and people moving.
Place, with duration. Your dog holds a bed while the household runs around it, which is the skill that ends jumping, begging and pacing at home.
Midday rest in a crate or on place. Calm is a trained skill, and rest is when the morning's work sets.
Afternoon exposure: a pet store, a sidewalk with other dogs, the lake, a parking lot. Platinum and VIP dogs do this in public, Silver and Gold dogs on the property and the street.
Evening walk and settle. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, photos and video go out so you see exactly what was worked and how your dog responded.

Houston field trips
Calm in public is built in public, on purpose.
A dog who is perfect in a training yard and a mess at a Cypress pet store has not been trained for Houston. Platinum and VIP programs include field trips into the places families actually go: the pet and hardware stores along 290 and Fry Road, neighborhood sidewalks where other dogs are being walked, park benches, lakeside paths and busy storefronts.
Each trip has a job. A reactive dog practices holding a heel while another dog passes at a distance he can handle, then closer over the days. A bolting dog practices waiting at the truck door with a parking lot behind him. A pushy adolescent learns that strangers are neither a threat nor a party. The trips are what make the go-home session simple, because your dog has already met the real world with a trainer on the leash.
Getting here
Cypress is an easy drive from anywhere in greater Houston, or our team picks up.
The training home is in Cypress, off 290 on the northwest side. From The Heights, Memorial or the Energy Corridor it is roughly 30 to 45 minutes; from The Woodlands and Spring about 35 to 45 minutes on 99 or 249; from Katy about 25 to 35 minutes up 99. The exact address is shared when you book.
If you would rather not drive, the $250 transportation service collects your dog from your home anywhere in the service area, returns him when the program ends, and includes the first lesson in your house so the training transfers where it matters. Transport home and the in-home handover are already included in VIP.
- Central Houston: about 30 to 45 minutes
- The Woodlands and Spring: about 35 to 45 minutes
- Katy and Tomball: about 25 to 35 minutes
- Door-to-door pick-up and return: $250

What comes home
The go-home session is where the program becomes yours.
Every board and train ends with a go-home session. Our trainers demonstrate everything your dog learned, hand you the leash, and coach you through the commands, the leash handling, place at your own door and what to do the first time your dog tests the new rules. In the VIP program this happens in your home after our team transports your dog back.
Then the support continues. Gold includes an additional lesson and lifelong support, Platinum includes unlimited private lessons, and VIP includes unlimited in-home lessons directly with our trainers. Families who follow the structure report the same thing: the dog in the videos is the dog who came home.
The programs
The four board and train lengths.
Every program lives in our Cypress training home with updates three times a week. The difference is time, depth and what happens after.
Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
How much is board and train in Houston?
At Best Dog University, board and train runs $1,500 for one week (Silver), $2,500 for two weeks (Gold), $3,750 for three weeks (Platinum) and $10,000 for the six-week VIP Service-Dog-Level program. Door-to-door transportation is $250 and is included in VIP.
Where does my dog stay during board and train?
In our trainer's home in Cypress, on the northwest side of Houston. Not a kennel and not a warehouse facility. Your dog lives in the house, trains in everyday environments and, in Platinum and VIP, goes on field trips into public places around Houston.
Which board and train length do most Houston dogs need?
The three-week Platinum is the most common choice because it is the shortest program with field trips and behavior modification built in. Dogs who only need manners and a foundation do well in the two-week Gold. Our team recommends the length on the free phone consultation and will say when a shorter program is enough.
Will I hear from you while my dog is away?
Yes. Professional photo and video updates go out every Monday, Wednesday and Friday so you see exactly what was worked and how your dog responded. In between, a quick text to our team gets a quick reply, and you can always ask for a specific update on a skill you care about.
Do you pick up dogs from Houston, The Woodlands or Katy?
Yes. The $250 transportation service picks your dog up at home anywhere in the service area, returns him at the end and includes the first lesson in your home. It is included at no extra cost in the VIP program.
