How long
How long does board and train take?
The length of a program is not a menu choice; it is a diagnosis. A dog who pulls needs a foundation and repetition. A dog who lunges at other dogs needs that foundation plus weeks of controlled exposure. A dog whose owner wants it reliable off leash on ten acres in Hockley needs the whole arc. Our team decides the length on the free call, and this page explains what they are deciding.

Week one
One week installs structure, and that is all it can honestly do.
Seven days in our training home is enough for a dog to learn that meals are earned, doors are waited at, walks are structured and place means place. Loose leash walking and door boundaries get built and a go-home session sends the rules home. That is the Silver program, $1,500, and it suits a refresher or a dog that needs a starting point.
It is not enough time to change how a dog feels about other dogs, strangers or being alone. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling a week.
- Structure, loose leash, door boundaries
- Refreshers and first introductions
- $1,500, go-home session included

Weeks two and three
Two weeks builds the foundation; three is where behavior actually changes.
The two-week Gold program ($2,500) has time for sit/stay, place/stay, loose leash walking and door boundaries to be taught, repeated and proofed at home and on the street, with jumping, pulling and impulse control addressed. It suits younger dogs and dogs with mild to moderate issues.
The third week is where reactivity and aggression work fits. Platinum ($3,750) adds down/stay, the structured heel, impulse control under pressure and controlled exposure to the dog's real triggers on field trips. Behavior modification needs the dog to succeed around its trigger many times; that takes a week the Gold program does not have.
Six weeks
Six weeks is the length of a finished, off-leash reliable dog.
Complete off-leash reliability is built in layers that cannot be rushed: engagement, long-line recall, duration under distraction, then communication at distance with the Mini-Educator, introduced only after each command is understood. The VIP program ($10,000) runs six weeks because that is how long the layers take with a dog living and training with our trainers daily.
VIP also ends differently: the dog is transported home and our team runs an in-depth in-home handover, then unlimited in-home lessons. The length includes proofing in public, at the lake and around wildlife, so the reliability has been tested before you are handed the leash.
Structure and obedience foundations, week one.
Duration and distraction on every command, weeks two and three.
Structured heel, front and center, door boundaries, weeks three and four.
Long-line recall in fields and at the lake, throughout.
Mini-Educator at low levels for distance, weeks four and five.
Off-leash proofing in public, then the in-home handover, week six.
What can shorten or lengthen it
Age, history and the household decide the length more than the breed does.
A young dog with no bad habits learns fast. A six-year-old with three years of rehearsed reactivity needs more repetitions before the new pattern wins. A dog with a bite history needs an consultation and usually the longer program. A household that will keep the routine can take a shorter program; one that cannot benefits from Platinum's unlimited lessons afterwards.
Houston adds one variable: in summer, outdoor exposure is limited to early and late hours, so a reactive dog's public work is spread across more days. Our trainers plan for it, and it is one reason the three-week length exists.
- Younger dogs and clean histories: shorter
- Years of rehearsed behavior: longer
- Bite history: consultation, then usually Platinum or VIP
- Summer: more days, shorter outdoor sessions

After the weeks
The program ends; the training does not, and that is by design.
Every length ends with a go-home session. Gold adds a lesson and lifelong support, Platinum unlimited private lessons, VIP unlimited in-home lessons directly with our trainers. The weeks install the change; the lessons keep it. Families in Katy, The Woodlands and Spring can add $250 transportation so the program ends with a lesson at their own front door.

Asked and answered
Questions people ask about this.
Is two weeks enough for board and train?
For a foundation of obedience and manners, yes. The two-week Gold program builds sit/stay, place/stay, loose leash walking and door boundaries to a standard that holds at home. Reactivity, aggression and off-leash reliability need three to six weeks.
Is three weeks enough to fix reactivity?
For most reactive dogs, yes. Platinum has the time to build the foundation and then rehearse calm around real dogs and people daily on field trips. Serious cases or off-leash goals move up to the six-week VIP program.
Can I book a shorter program and extend it?
Our team recommends the right length on the free call so that rarely comes up, and they will tell you at the go-home session if more time would pay off. Families who start with Silver often book Gold or Platinum later as a second stay.
How long until I see results?
Structure changes a dog within days, and you will see it in the Monday, Wednesday and Friday updates. Reliable obedience takes the second week; calm around triggers takes the third. The result that matters is the one you keep at home after the handover.
Does a longer program cost more per day?
No. Silver, Gold and Platinum sit close to the same daily rate; the price rises with the days. VIP costs more per day because it includes the Mini-Educator, transport home, an in-home handover and unlimited in-home lessons.
